++Houston Texans Thread Offseason 2016++ Pre-Season @ Dallas

This defense has been playing fantastic these last few games. Today they really only gave up two big runs, which was pretty much their entire running for the day. Watt, Clowney, KJ, KJ2, JJoe, and pretty much the whole secondary made plays. The turnaround of this defense is amazing to see. The offense was good too minus it stalling after that pick. Really liking the mix of plays they're running offensively to maximize possessions. Hasn't been a lot of predictability, which is great. The mish-mash of running backs has worked out these last two games like I thought it would at the beginning of the season. Buffalo up next at their stadium. Gonna be a very tough game regardless of the record. Sure would be nice if teams started beating the Colts

Hate to hear there's some o-line shuffling today. Apparently Brandon Brooks has some kind of stomach problem and ended up leaving the stadium. Might be ulcers, but it's not confirmed. I'd prefer they start Oday at that spot instead of flipping everybody around.

This is actually a pretty big game. As far as seedings go, we can still make the playoffs without winning the division if that's what it comes down to. Only thing, we'd have to actually get behind the Colts to beat the Steelers :x Also, that Chiefs loss week 1 holds some relevance as well. Have to hope they take like 2 losses while we also do our own job.

This was a very bad loss based on the fact that instead of having the last wildcard spot, we're now the 3rd team out. This loss and the Chiefs loss can possibly keep us out of the playoffs if it comes to tie breakers. We'd basically need to win all the games we can, hope for any number of Steelers/Chiefs/Bills losing. This really sucks cause we had the opportunity to win after being down. Silly penalties, overthrows, drops by the WRs and TEs, and busted coverage collectively did us in.

The Texans were without Brandon Brooks on Sunday.

But the right guard might be back next Sunday when Houston hosts the Patriots on Sunday Night Football at NRG Stadium.

The fourth-year veteran was inactive against the Bills due to an illness on on Sunday morning. He spent the day and night there in an area hospital, but will be back home this evening.

"Brandon Brooks stayed overnight in Buffalo," head coach Bill O'Brien said on Monday. "Should be back in Houston by seven o’clock tonight."

In his place, the Texans started Oday Aboushi at right guard. The offense was able to rush for over 100 yards in its third consecutive contest, as the Texans ground out 126 rushing yards against the Bills.

According to O'Brien, Brooks had been "throwing up all night" before the game. Upon arriving at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Brooks was taken to a hospital.

On Monday, the head coach said it was too soon to speculate whether or not Brooks would be available to play against New England.

HOUSTON -- Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has a cast on his left wrist and missed practice Thursday.

Watt said he broke his hand during Wednesday's practice but will be on the field when the Texans (6-6) host the New England Patriots (10-2) on Sunday night at NRG Stadium.

"People are going to try to make a big deal out of this, but I've played with worse than this before, even this season," Watt said. "This, I'm not very worried about. My elbow a couple years back was way more painful. This was painful when it happened, but it's football. In a game of football you're going to play with pain."

Texans coach Bill O'Brien also said he expects Watt to play Sunday and does not expect the injury to affect him. Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said Watt will have to adjust to not being able to grip anything with his left hand.

Watt didn't offer specifics on how he suffered the injury, but he said he knew immediately his hand was broken. He was unsure of a timetable for his recovery from the injury.

"Football is a game where things happen and you play through it," Watt said. "You go out there, you do whatever you can to help your team win. So that's what I plan to do."

Watt is also dealing with a groin injury. He did not practice two days last week with the groin injury but played 100 percent of the Texans' defensive snaps against the Buffalo Bills.

Asked if opposing players come after injuries when they know he has them, Watt said: "Let 'em try. I mean, what? The opposing players come after me every week with every type of thing in the book you can think of.

"So feel free, go ahead, come at me. I'll take advantage of whatever you try to do. It's my job to get to the quarterback. That's what I do."

Watt has never missed a game in the NFL. His 76 consecutive starts trail only Julius Peppers (98) and Rob Ninkovich (77) for active streaks among defensive ends.

The reigning defensive player of the year, Watt leads the NFL with 13.5 sacks. Last weekend against the Bills was the first time in six games in which Watt did not have a sack.

Watt has faced the Patriots twice in the regular season, but he's never sacked Tom Brady. He had half a sack against Brady in a Texans-Patriots playoff game after the 2012 season.

This should make things even more fun

The New England Patriots travel to NRG Stadium to face the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football. The Patriots have lost two straight after starting the season 10-0, and head coach Bill Belichick will look for his team to bounce back against the Texans. Houston is currently in a tight playoff race in the AFC South and is currently tied with the Indianapolis Colts at 6-6 on the year.

The Buffalo Bills snapped Houston's four game win streak, and Texans head coach Bill O'Brien will need his team to bounce back against New England, as they have no room for error in this conference matchup. Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer is having a career year in his first season in Houston and has thrown a career-high 18 touchdowns to just six interceptions. Hoyer will look to target Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins Sunday night as he leads the team in with 86 catches this year.

Hopkins has 1,169 receiving yards and is coming off a big game against the Buffalo Bills in which he caught five passes for 88 yards and touchdown. O'Brien will look to have a strong combination of run and pass plays on Sunday, as he will look to keep the Patriots' defense guessing.

While Houston's offense will look to get it going against New England, it's the Texans defense that separates this team from others. Star defensive end J.J. Watt is expected to play with a cast on his hand Sunday, after breaking it this week during Wednesday's practice. Watt is a matchup nightmare for any defense and has recorded 13.5 sacks this year.

Belichick has likely devised a strong game plan in protecting quarterback Tom Brady from Watt Sunday night, and the return of Rob Gronkowski will have a major impact on New England's offense. Gronkowski is reportedly expected to play Sunday against Houston, and he currently leads the team with 931 receiving yards.

Gronkowski and wide receiver Danny Amendola will look to be Brady's top targets on Sunday, as they both can be impact playmakers. Amendola has filled in nicely in the slot role with wide receiver Julian Edelman injured and has caught 56 passes for 582 yards with three touchdowns on the year.

The Patriots currently have the third best offense in the entire NFL in terms of yards per game, but they have struggled to stay consistent with their ground game. Running back LeGarrette Blount will see plenty of touches Sunday night, and New England will look to establish a strong rushing attack against the Texans. Belichick knows how important a strong ground game can be come playoffs, and expect Blount and running back Brandon Bolden to get plenty of work down the stretch of this season.

Both teams are currently fighting for the postseason, but New England is truly fighting for a strong postseason position.

Pathetic offensive output tonight. The defense gave up 27, but they actually played pretty well. Minus that play where Mercilus fell and gave up a big conversion, it was mostly the offense putting them in bad positions. When you have a play where Demps has to cover Gronk, and Gronk pushes off to grab the TD, you just can't beat that. The offense stalled several times, and seem to outsmart themselves instead of going with what they know. The wildcat plays just didn't work with the Pats, and I figured that wouldn't work anyway. It's tragic that Hopkins only had like 3 catches. I know he was double covered a lot, but some of those plays that were designed for Nate Washington should've been designed for Hopkins in the first place. Hopkins in those positions would've made those plays.

The drops in general :x :x :x Nate and the TEs, Jesus Christ

We have to win in Indy and that's all to it.

That was probably the worst OL play in awhile, and it was mostly cause of Derek Newton. He was embarrassed all night and that was sad to watch. He hasn't played like that since probably 2012. Hoyer was getting peeled off the ground all night, and I really think he had a concussion much sooner than when he actually left the game.

I'm glad they recognize this:

The Texans struggled with dropped passes.

They did so in Sunday night’s loss to the Patriots, and they’ve done so all season long.

With an NFL-worst 28 drops out of 328 catchable passes in 2015, the Houston offense is at the bottom of the League in that category. So offensive coordinator George Godsey and company have gone back to the basics to fix it.

“We’ve gone ahead and done some things practice-wise, maybe gear practice toward that individually or as a group, that anybody who is eligible to catch a ball – they’re not easy catches, and certainly the balls can be thrown better,” Godsey said.

The offensive coordinator also emphasized that it’s not just on the receivers to fix the problem.

“I think everybody looks in the mirror, maybe it’s a protection that’s a little bit loose that we can have a little bit more of a pocket to step in and make it more accurate throw, maybe it’s just the throw itself,” Godsey said. “Then when the ball is in the air, I think every receiver has the mindset to go up and get it, and I think that’s what we’re trying to gear toward this week, basically getting back to fundamentals at that position.”

The Texans will practice again on Thursday and Friday at the Houston Methodist Training Center, and will fly to Indianapolis on Saturday. They face the Colts in Lucas Oil Stadium at noon CT on Sunday.

Gotta get this win today. Defense needs to be huge, and Yates needs to get time and stay under control. For punting purposes, Lechler could be clutch for the defense. It looks like we're playing Hasselbeck, and I know he's not 100%. Dude needs to get hit all day so we can when this division.

:pimp: :pimp: Well well well look at us #WinningWithWeeden  The defense was huge in this game, and deserve all the credit for continuing to give the offense chances to win, and thankfully, the offense did capitalize. Was pulling for Yates, but that sucks he got injured, cause he's been apart of clutch moments as a Texan, and this probably cost him a spot heading into next year, and money. Loved the pressure the defense was able to put on Hass (finally), cause I was pretty nervous about those quick passes early on. Props to Weeden for managing like he did, and the OL for somewhat giving him time to throw.

Nate Washington and the TEs :x :x our TEs are terrible man. I can't get over this. They're damn near useless if not 100% useless. Jaelen Strong needs more PT too. Damn shame it always takes a Shorts injury o get him on the field.

Texans sign B.J. Daniels off Seattle's practice squad. So will he be the starter heading into the playoffs ?

Hoyer's still going through concussion protocol, but it is possible he'll start Sunday. I feel like we should just get Weeden ready at least fit this week, then have Hoyer back the week after, then for the first round of the playoffs.

Let's get this win guys. Titans won't lay down, so the Texans defense has to make sure to put the offense in good position for decent drives, and the offense has to sustain drives so the defense doesn't have to be on the field for lengthy periods. #WinningWithWeeden :pimp:

Glad this game went like how it was supposed to. The Texans knew what they had to do and took care of business. I'm still amazed at such a turnaround. We were pretty much dead in the water, miserable and suffering after the Miami game at 2-5, so it be 8-7 after that is a great feeling. Just have to finish it off now. Sucks the Dolphins couldn't do their job against a battered Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, but at home next week, we just have to focus on our own job again.
