++Houston Texans Thread Offseason 2016++ Pre-Season @ Dallas

Well well well

For two weeks I've been hearing him described as Ted Ginn, lets just hope Hopkins is able to help him not drop passes. Hearing Kiper mention the same thing, along with him leading the NCAA in drops the past two season made my stomach turn based on all the drops this team had in general last year. Need some playmakers and hopefully he can be the perfect #2 instead of Kesean Martin/Jacoby Jones/Devier Posey/Terrence Tolliver/Lestar Jean/etc.

Next Draft Picks Order

2 - 52
3 - 85
4 - 119
5 - 159
5 - 166
6 - 195

Yea, I'm petty, but I'm no longer rocking with the Texans. Not till Rick Smith is gone. I will be following my guys Watt, Hop, and Clowney though.

Felt like they got trolled with both Doctson/Treadwell being drafted the immediate picks after

I thought he was 6'2" 205 and he's like 6'0" 185. Dude has outrageous speed, but those drops just make me think of previous WRs we've had. Maybe it'll be different in the NFL, so the jury will definitely be out til then. The fact they traded up 1 spot to get him when he probably wasn't going to get picked by Washington is what irks me, especially with Treadwell and Doctson prwtty much going right after him. I will say he's in a better position. To step in and do something that Watt actually was as a DE.

This goes for literally any WR

man, do yall know what having D.Hop AND Dez Bryant on the field at the same time woud look like? We could have potentially had a legendary pass attack. Jury's out on fuller, but he's got a ton of film out there and it does not look special at all. I see us running some very gadget-y or vanilla stuff with him. Will probably be very predictable but OK since DHop is on the field. Man, the Texans are a cornball organization for real.

"at 8 1/4 inches Fuller has the smallest hands of the four receivers I've done breakdowns of so far, and he's the only one whose hands are even less than 9 inches."

you want a fast guy to simply pull the top off and take attention of DHop. You don't draft a decoy in the first round

I don't think he'll be a decoy plus the things he's not good at can be taught. If the team truly got their guy then I can't be mad at that.

*hot take alert*

If he's today's Ted Ginn then I can live with that. If he's consistently getting behind defenses for big gains & touchdowns then I can live with the drops.

IMO....

you don't teach hands.
you don't teach high pointing footballs.
you don't teach catching with your hands instead of your body
you don't teach agility past the age of like 16.
you don't "teach" being alpha and having an ultra competitive nature.
you don't "teach" having an innate feel for open spots when running routes.
you don't "teach" vision.

did you grow up playing sports?

and Tedd Ginn is not making any defenses fear anybody

not over the top, to the side, under the ground. NATHAN

He ate this season because people paid him no attention due to his history of being trash

We drafted him because of his speed and the Texans want to get faster so as I said I understood the pick. Not really trying to justify or change anybody's opinion because neither him, Treadwell or Doctson are absolute sure things.

Hell a guy who's not as fast, not as good of a route runner & pretty much the same drop percentage as Fuller went 15th because he gets behind defenses and has a bigger body.

Plus we all know a guy like Ted Ginn has bad hands, pretty much since he's been in the league but he keeps getting jobs because he still gets behind defenses and teams covet a weapon like that

 @ keeps getting jobs

Ride with your team to the death, bro.

boys glorifying drafting unproductive journeymen in the 1st round with true #1 WR talents on the board

Treadwell is a sure thing, and if you don't believe that, I don't know what to tell you. He already has elite NFL ball skills and has never played a game. Treadwell had a 1k+ receiving season after his injury, so that "flag" around injury is lazy. After reading that the Texans didn't talk to Fuller ANY other than at the combine, it sounds like it's just an incompetent front office.

When they're looking for their bonafide #1 option, they hit. When they are looking for anything complementary, they are super trash. and they're trash for looking for complementary gadget players in the 1st round

Also, ringing sentiment around Corey Coleman is that he's the most competitive son of a gun you'll have in a WR corp (like Treadwell).
Coleman catches the ball with his hands
Coleman high points (to a lesser degree than Doct/Tread) the fooball
Will fuller is not route running to any significant degree higher than Coleman and the fact that he only excelled in the 40 tells you about his overall athleticism.

Treadwell is no sure thing and if he was he would've went in the top 5. The fact that 2 more compete receivers were picked after 2 speed guys lets you know teams value speed.

We already have a #1 guys who's a ultra possession receiver and the thing we lacked was a guy who could flip the field in 1 play, Fuller does that. They wanted a YAC guy, Fuller is that.

Idk why you're arguing that the guy we picked won't be productive when none of these guys and I repeat NONE OF THESE GUYS are absolute sure things.

If you don't like the pick them just say that but trying to back your points up with things you don't know is just stupid.

Plus I really don't know why you're debating this Ted Ginn thing when the guy had a 10 TD season just last season. A guy like that probably would've been our 2nd best receiver last season granted a guy like Hoyer could get him the ball.

This is true, but it is also an indictment on the travesty of production we've had at the #2 WR position

Him not being drafted top 5 is simply because teams value other positions a lot more and don't need a WR. Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas were drafted 22/24 the year they were drafted.

I understand the team values speed, but A. Hopkins ran a 4.6....B. You don't have to reach for speed, trading up, unless it is an elite talent which fuller is not. He's simply elite at the 40. He's not elite at the 20 or any of the acceleration drills, vertical, jumps, etc. Speed is not simply measured by the 40. Yes he's a burner on the field, but it takes being a "football player" to actually do this in the NFL. He catches with his body. He runs the fly and post well, but those are HS routes and easy to run because of speed. its the same thing Teddy does . When he runs comeback routes, he catches them with his body. showing no ability to squat, catch, turn upfield for extra yards and utilize his speed. He's dropping comeback routes hitting his chest.

your "none of the guys statement": You say that about literally every pick. Cool

I'm not even saying Fuller won't be productive. He has a ton of talent around him giving us the ability to let this guy simply run fly routes. He still has suspect hands. Treadwell has the "it" factor that you only realize if you've played football, lol. doctson too, he's a high pointer with a basketball foundation. this usually bodes well for WR/TE. He also had standout accelleration numbers and great length. pause. as did treadwell. quite the wall of text, but idk, nothing is adding up

Man, we are not the Panthers. They just competed in the superbowl

I don't need to have played sports to have an opinion. I'm pretty sure nobody that has posted in this thread has played in the NFL.

I say "none of these guys" because until they play the games no one knows, not you, me, BOB, Rick Smith or anybody. All we can do is hope that he's productive for this team, like Washington HOPES Doctson will be. Like a team like Minnesota HOPES Treadwell will be. Like a team like Cleveland HOPES Coleman will be.

That's all I'm saying and I'm not even necessarily disagreeing with you. I'm telling you we don't know and you're telling me I'm wrong. I don't understand it.

Hustla,You're posts in here and the rockets thread are horrible, man. Just give it a damn rest

Will have proper update tomorrow, but I love the picks as a collective right now :smokin I was hoping for a standout TE, and would've settled for another DE/DT, but I think the Miller pick is very good and the Martin pick is a much needed one. Glad Martin got picked high instead of us trying to makeshift a 7th rounder/undrafted guy. The 4th round and on should more than likely be TEs/DEs. I still want to see what a healthy Anthony Denham does if he happens to stick around. TE is a primary position now since it's been so terrible after Daniels left.

jewbacca2 jewbacca2 I'm just not a homer, bro. I'll let my real feelings fly and will not forsake objective sports talk over fandom. Guys been flip flopping on their sentiments all season with the Rox. I've sang the same tune since we got embarassed by Portland. Now we're defending when Rick Smith does bad. I can't accept mediocrity, sorry.

That said, I rock heavily with Nick Martin if he can be any semblance of his big bro. And I think I like Braxton better than Fuller
