My take on dlo..

I didn't see him in hs or college besides highlights but from what I've seen and read he's never been a true pg, his teams have always relied on him to score. To me it looks like he is trying to learn the position in phases. First he would get a screen and either just pass it to get the ball out his hands or pass up the shot and kinda dribble around trying to read the defense. Then he started taking that midrange j off the screen from both elbows. Now against the knicks you see him take those elbow screens and start zig zagging across the lane trying to shift the defense and create passing lanes a la clarkson.

Clarkson is a better athlete but there's nothing he does in the offense that dlo can't do as well or better. JC doesn't rely on his quicks and actually plays half speed a lot of the time. What makes him effective is he really knows how to work those screens and make quick decisions, his decision making is even a hair quicker than it was last year. It looks like dlo is beginning to grasp the nuances of the position. Once he gets the hang of it you'LL start seeing him do a lot of the things clarkson does as far as knocking down that midranger, drawing the defense and finding the open man or getting to the rim for a floater.

If DLo can consistently hit the 3, that will be a big difference on what he can do, right now they are playing him loose. If he hits the shot at the rate he can (he's a really good shooter), his man will come up, and it will be a big help. Calderon played him a lot closer than other guys, and it opened up P&R from 15-17 for him. Just has to know he can get closer. Do it once, do it twice, and he'll start to feel good about it.

We all know he isn't John Wall out there with speed, but if a guy is playing off him, ain't no way he is doing anything to get passed him.

Man I'm afraid of what Goran might do to DLo tonight :smh:. He really gonna be taking all the rookie lumps he can handle this season lol
And what the hell happened to Huertes?! He has a few good games in the preseason but has he played?? Seems like Byron has Lou playing back up PG a lot :roll eyes (who on earth gave Byron the idea to do that)

No minutes..

You have Russell / Clarkson / Lou Will / Swaggy / Kobe / MWP all trying to get 144 minutes, that somebody doesn't get any (Huertas & Anthony Brown)

Yup his jumper is going to be important. Even in college when he broke down his defender 1 on 1, he preferred to pull up mid range. He's a good shooter but I think his ceiling will be limited until he finds out how to get to the rim.

Drawing fouls or having those shifty Nash/curry type of layups and floaters is really going to be important.

Very true, his jumper will determine if he's an All-Star or just another guy.
