whats in a name? VOL....RAVEN symone

like i said its about control

the fact that all a name matters to you all is the context of getting a job proves it

like the point was made earlier, celebs who have kids who dont have to worry about "getting jobs" can be named whatever they want

but when someone who is not celeb (read: not white) wants to get original/unique, all of sudden its all this derision

people of "lower class" are to conform, while people of "higher class" dont

It isn't just lower class. It applies to the middle class as well. The lower class just has more to lose. The reason why this doesn't apply to the upper class and the elite is because they make the rules and have power. The rules they make don't apply to them i.e. a politician being against gun ownership but will have armed bodyguards around the clock. Until then you have to play the game. When you achieve that success then you can name your kids what you want, dress how you, tattoo your face, etc. If you can't provide for yourself and are depending on someone to provide you with employment, loans and subsidies you gotta fall in line.

Dont think its just black folks doing this.

"Upper class"..i guess we'll call it that, are good for mixing up names.

Daniel + Joanne = Danjo.

W t f

Giving traditionally male names to females and vice versa makes me roll my eyes as well. "Hmmm, my new baby boy...I think I'll name him Ashley"

A lot of actors and actresses change their names though. I actually think it has to do with their public audience accepting their names ironically. Some even change their last names just cause it could be too ethnic.

I found this on a website. Real names of some celebs:

Olivia Wilde - born Olivia Jane Cockburn
Ralph Lauren - born Ralph Lif*****
Elton John - born Reginald Kenneth Dwight
Shawn Michaels - born Michael Higgenbottom
Billie Holiday - born Eleanora Fagan
Michael Caine - born Maurice Micklewhite
Albert Brooks - born Albert Einstein
John Denver - born Henry John Deutschendorf
Kirk Douglas - born Issur Danielovitch Demsky
Charo - born María del Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza de Rasten

names like bubba and jethro even are ok but not delondrea or shawanna
I've never seen a resume or application with Bubba as the name

Them ppl in the south don't even go for jobs like that.

You're totally trying to put some negative stigma to the name Jethro though.

Ain't nobody putting Bubba application. If they were it wouldn't be on a resume cause I'm sure they wouldn't be applying for a job that would need a resume.

Jethro is actually a biblical (Hebrew) name. so yeah a jethro may get hired.

that golfer bubba something get all the love in the world

and u can look up jethro as being significant but all the jethro i ever heard of been hicks

Let's remember that Ms. Pearman doesn't identify herself as African American, only American. She doesn't want to identify herself with any type of black culture. Raven looks like she begs to snort lines with the Olsen twins at parties to put on her snapchat

I don't identify myself as African American either sir, JUST American. Has nothing to do with me trying to not identify myself with the black culture. Although I do think Raven is an idiot.

He's an athlete.

He didn't apply to be a golfer  He's good at it. His name could've been anything. He'd get love cuz he's pretty good, famous in that world, and probably isn't an outright a-hole.

We talking about ppl who apply for everyday jobs being discriminated against because of their names and other things like some ppl from certain ethnic backgrounds choosing to change their names because of that.

I aint never seen a Bubba at an office job middle management. The only thing you could probably bring up are rare occasions where a Bubba got a job or high position in the most unorthodox way (like they're rich and bought the company). The regular Bubba's get jobs where their names don't matter as far as presentation goes.

You're confusing two things here.

The name and the type of person. Every Jethro you've met is a hick. Is that a stereotype held by many?

I know it wasn't for me.

my point was that names only detract from a person/ stereotype a person when they are "lower" class

a name like bubba typically would hold someone back, but since hes white he not held to that regard

wasnt there a college coach named bubba too?

the only time names hold ppl back is when theyre black

jethro now aint a hick name its biblical

and its not a name typically associated with hicks

this whole "issue" is all about conforming to white society

ghetto name now = true african name back when slavery started

the same way mansa's were renamed michael's, everybody name is to be some westernized familiar name

its about control, keeping people within a system down to how they name themselves

man ALL of this

like I know
Asian friends change their name from Chang to Charles
Hispanic friends changing Jose to Joe

Also a lot of black mainstream name have roots in African and islam.... Aisha comes to mind,
this 100%

Bruh, I work for medicaid.

Its not just us, ANYBODY with a made up name gets the business..

Bubba is a nickname that sticks though.

Of course Bubba wouldn't hold a golfer back. A black basketball player named Bubba wouldn't be held back either. It's not cuz he's white it's cuz of the job he's trying to apply for. If same dude tried to apply to be VP of sales at some company he probably wouldn't get it.

Seems you're making this solely a black and white thing again. Not surprising.

Pops always told me, if people can see your good before they know name you got the job no matter your name. If they find out your name is dirty butthole before they know your good, its a wrap.

Pretty sure Bubba's and Jethro's drive F250s, hunt, and use pics of dogs as their twitter avys

Im saying, there is a difference between representing your heritage and being exactly what racists people think you are.

All of this..

Trust me when I say that white people pre-judge other white people based on their name..Ask any white dude what's the first thing that comes to mind when he hears the names Tammy, Crystal, Diamond, Becky, or Kayla and I'd bet 75% of them will something like "I bet she's white trash or a hood rat"..

C'mon b you know wrestling is fake right. Undertaker is not really from Death Valley, Yokozuna was not Japanese and Mankind/Dude Love/Catcus Jack was the same exact person...

I copied and pasted it from a website. I really didn't put any thought into it.....and I don't watch wrestling for anything.
