HBO Documentary: San Francisco 2.0

im a native. i am fortunate to have a place that is rent-controlled. if it wasnt for that, i would either be with my parents or relocate.
sf has always been expensive, but now, the middle is gone. city is flooded with techies (some cant even afford it). what made sf special is pretty much gone

it's sad when i see a lot of the small businesses and mom/pop shops disappearing and condos being built left and right

Man I grew up in the TL, lived in HP most of my youth, moved to Antioch for a few years. Now I'm back living in HP for the last 5 years. It's so different there's "people" out and about jogging, bike riding and even just walking their dogs. It's crazy when you think how much has changed

Yeah I know plenty of people that work at startups that all have to bunk up with a bunch of roommates just to be able to afford to live in SOMA, russian hill, Pac Heights etc.  Only the higher ups can really afford their own place

Lol only reason you're saying it's not awful is because you're coming from a city with horrible traffic as well.  Austin is dope, kind of reminds me of Santa Barbara without the beaches/ocean.  Girls there are hot too.  I have friends that live right on 6th st. down there and it's fun.  Still a lot cheaper than SF and LA but it's not as cheap as like Tempe.

Yeah of course, traffic in LA/ SF is 10x worse

I like Austin, I'd live in downtown/ 6th for a hot minute. Muuuuuuuch cheaper than both of course. Tempe is cheap as hell, I don't compare that city to anywhere else lol.

Way I look at it, wherever I'm going to live the rest of my life will be $$$$$

this. i havent been out to HP area in a minute, but i hear it's changing. i've seen the TL and Mission totally transformed.

This is true though.

You know someone's lying about being Filipino if they don't have at least ONE known family member living in Daly City.

I do not have a family member in Daly City.

They made the move from Philippines to Hawaii to San Jose.

Used to go Shoe Biz in Valencia, that street use to be a lot more calm. Now every time I go there to go to my coffee spot in a sunny day, it's hipster central. The only area I go to that feels the same is Irving and Clement. Every other lively district is different and more crowded. I remember Sutter St. and haight was the only hipster districts around '08.

I just mentioned Tempe cause I like the Mill Ave. area and would consider living there.  All the desirable parts of LA really is expensive just like SF.  My homegirl pays $2,200 a month for a real ****** place in Los Feliz right now

The thing about the tech boom is, a lot of these folks are leveraged because their stock is still private...so many take loans against their future IPOs or sell on the secondary, which is tough.

Therefore, the SF Bay Area is definitely more volatile/cyclical...right now, we're rising to the peak where (like everywhere else) we had our own correction back in 2008-2009.

I live in Concord - near Clayton, and it's not too bad...not the best in terms of restaurants and honestly, the proximity to the freeway is the biggest detriment. Adding 20 mins to the commute, which is also increasing because of the population itself, sucks. But, we bought in 2010 and are sitting pretty...even with a correction eventually, we'd still be fine. Honestly happy to have a mortgage, prop tax and insurance for about $2k a month.

We have and will continue to consider moving out of the Bay Area. As I've said in another thread, the thought of stepping up to a bigger house in a more desirable area and spending $900k+ makes me sick. I'd rather save to retire than spend that much on housing.

Yeah Mill is amazing. Couldn't deal with the heat though.

The hipster areas are expensive. Hell, all of LA is expensive.

My friends who are already in LA are SHOCKED I am paying $2,200 for a 2 bedroom in a PRIME spot.

Yeah that whole Phoenix area is just cheap though, see a lot of $30,000 a year millionaires out there.  Even Scottsdale which is "The Beverly Hills of Phoenix" is not bad at all.  LA is much larger in land mass than SF so there are still affordable places just not the desirable areas.  You have to either go south like Inglewood/Hawthorne etc. or East for the affordable places.

ive lived in a lot of places (Boston, NYC,DC,Santa Fe,LA) and recently moved to San Jose. The bay area is just like the rest of the country on steroids. That is the middle class is disapperaing and the high and lower classes are expanding. That is why we need to elect Bernie Sanders. We need to tax those making over $200k a little more and ease taxes on those making under $100k. The people benefiting from the boom need to contribute more taxes to expand the infrastructure they are overwhelming, remedy congestion, and help the neighborhoods and people they are displacing.

Has anyone tried to find a sugar mama techie in SF? I'm trying to come up.

This is what is funny about the tech boom. IMO, all these tech girls are average at best. But since they have money, they all want a guy that has money as well and even more. I think that is what is different between guys and girls when it comes to being rich. Guys will sometimes take the paycut and get themselves a hot girl even if she has no job. Girls only want something equivalent or better. You'll have an easier time trying to get corporate sugar mama that just wants to date someone cause they are young.

Obviously. Ain't like I'm looking for models, but 8's with a degree from a reputable school is the move

Union St. is probably the best in the city to look for better looking chicks but yeah it's not even close to being a good city for talent in that sense

Yeah Union or maybe North Beach. I was wifed up so it didn't really matter to me.

^^^You still live there now? What is your unbiased opinion on living there? I'd literally be part of that problem if I tried to own a Condo there but I wonder if it is worth the investment in the long run since it is only getting worse and expensive. But man, if this bubble does in fact burst, that area will be the first place to go down the tubes in regards to the value.
yea i still live here my dad has a inlaw so theres where im staying at for the mean time so im just saving my money.. honestly i love it out here the bayview got prolly the best weather in the city hands down its not too dangerous depending where you looking at but ive seen it grow so much that in the next couple years its gonna be real nice

realistically, I'm going to be renting for a long time. Hopefully this boom lasts a while so I can get my cash up and be ready for the bust.
