meet Terrence Wise, a 36 year old, 2nd-generation fast-food worker

whatever makes you sleep better at night.

Do you know why fast food workers only get paid minimum wage? Its because it doesn't take much skills for someone to do it and they can be replaced easily. I can see the fight in raising the minimum wage in general but to argue that fast food workers should get paid more than other minimum wage workers isn't smart…
Yes, I'm aware. I said previously in this topic that we are still going to need people to perform these unskilled jobs, though. So, it doesn't matter that it's unskilled labor. I don't recall anyone suggesting that fast food workers deserve more money than other employees that earn minimum wage. I've been saying that people deserve a living wage.
The biggest part is you don't realize why people don't feel bad Terrance wise.
Nothing I've said is specific to Terrance Wise, though.

So y'all think ppl with other minimum jobs deserve livable wages, it's just the burger flipper that steers you the wrong way right?

everyone deserves livable wages. EVERYONE. Id even argue for a minimum basic income (if we can subsidize failing corporations and banks...why not people?)
yeah I feel the same way but according to this thread if you flip burgers you don't

"livable wage" goes up every time you have a kid. You can't just say everyone deserves a livable wage with just 1 minimum wage job as an end all be all. That amount is different for every situation. Sometimes you need to work 2 jobs or even 3.
Yes I can say everyone deserves a livable wage with just one job. Obviously three kids isn't a minimum lifestyle so that doesn't apply to my statement. If you don't think everyone deserves at minimum a livable wage when they go to work everyday, please explain why. Who deserves to get underpaid?

lmao did you even watch the video? why are you talking about all minimum wage workers when this thread is about terrance wise, who is fighting to increase the wage of only fast food workers?

fam, no lie i used to work at mickey D's when i was 17 in high school so i know how tough it is. but i also knew there was no way in hell i would work there past high school lol. i know you just said you weren't talking about terrance wise but our first exchange in this thread was about him so i'm not sure why you flipping back and fourth. we can't even have a sensible exchange without going at me. how sensitive are you?

like i said i'm all about increasing the wage of minimum wage but it doesn't make sense to ME to only increase the wages of fast food workers and not the other workers getting paid minimum wage.

So y'all think ppl with other minimum jobs deserve livable wages, it's just the burger flipper that steers you the wrong way right?

nah b i'm confused on why fast food workers don't fight for 15 for the new minimum wage rather than only fighting $15 for fast food workers. yeah they probably have to deal with rude customers but they also choose that minimum wage job over others. i'm all for living wage, even though i think it would be tough to sell in this capitalist world, but it rubbed me the wrong way since it seems to imply that fast food workers have it tougher than other minimum wage workers.

Because minimum wage is an issue for all people that make minimum wage, not just fast food workers. Is he saying that only fast food workers should make more than minimum wage, or is he simply fighting specifically for fast food workers? There's a difference. As I pointed out in one of my posts, this situation highlights several issues in the U.S.

Where did I flip back and forth? Everything I've been saying can be applied to anyone in an impoverished situation. It's funny because you're the one who seems to get sensitive every time I question your flawed logic or blatant lies. Do you expect to be able to make up facts and have no one question them?

have you been living under a rock this past year and half? the fast food workers are fighting for only fast food workers. what makes their job worth $15/hr but not other minimum wage jobs? that's the only thing i have been trying to say lol. but you don't mention anything about that. i have already said multiple times that i'm all for the minimum wage to increase but i don't see why fast food workers should jump to $15 while other minimum wage workers stay at the same rate.

can you show how i get sensitive? because i'm just laughing at how you think you're really doing it but in reality you're not. can you please show me where im telling blatant lies or flawed logic because i don't see it and you're the only one who is seeing it. i also like how you pick and choose what I say and not my entire message lol. i'm talking from what i saw and experienced and from people i personally know in similar situations. so i can't voice that because i don't have any stats to back it up? why is the only person who think i'm telling lies or have flaw logic is you?

how is it crazy for me to judge his work ethic or his intelligence if he's in the same spot as he was 20 years ago?

So what is a minimum lifestyle then?

I know 15 dollars an hour for one person supporting himself where I live is way more than just "livable."

You really gonna give a highschooler $750 a week?

They're gonna drop out.

and I know minimum wage isn't universal, it changes by state.

A minimum lifestyle to me is being able to afford the cheapest one bedroom apartment you can find in your city. You can't even rent a room in NYC with this "minimum" wage

Why do you think this? Just curious.

http://www.voxeu.org/article/high-school-dropout-rates-increase-income-inequality

Lack of income leads to drop out increase. You think more income will lead to a dropout increase?

Hell I was making good money in high school and kept going and I hated everything about school

Simple solution is to start tipping them. Americans love tipping.

There's an idea. Mandatory tipping for all minimum wage positions.

Thats because you have sense Sleazyy.

#TeamImgettinmoneydoe. #adiplomaisjustasheetofpaper ""****, I make enough now, why do I have to keep coming to school?"..

I know people who dropped just so they could smoke ciggs whenever they wanted to.

Just raising minimum wage to $15 solves nothing
everybody only wants to look at 1 step ahead

Are they arguing that minimum wage should stay the same for everyone else while increasing for fast food employees? Or are they just arguing that minimum wage should be increased for fast food employees? There's a difference.

You suggested that I'm an irresponsible fast food employee multiple times. That sounds to me like you're being sensitive and arguing from emotion. Refer back to where you made an assertion and couldn't back your claim. That's blatant dishonesty.

It's pretty crazy to judge someone on so few details. You know so little about this person, but you're making assumptions about them to draw conclusions.

I thought the $15 dollar minimum wage debate was about having it 15 dollars across the entire country? So you don't agree with that?

i had an entire message ready but i'm done with you dude lol. yeah you can get all technical with everything but just know you're in the minority on this topic. and we will STILL be laughing when Terrence Wise is a 56 year old fast food worker still making under $10/hr and he's blaming everybody but himself.

No I don't agree with that, minimum wage should reflect cost of living in each state separately.
