Who are the people that should be working in the fast food or service industry, that should be comfortable making $8 an hour? Besides students.....

Like what America do you guys live in where there is an overflow of jobs in ever US city and no need for workers in the lower wage industries?

If everyone had the mentality that they will not "settle" for minimum wage jobs, who the hell is going to do that type of work?

That's what I dont get. Like you guys are all talking about they should better themselves and do more... if everybody is doing more then who is left to do less?

Cuz the "less" are still needed, right? How do we have it both ways?

easy.
the people who chose that career field by poor planning and/or choosing not to get an education

that my friend is the answer.
there will always be those that choose to do less.

and thats 100% fine.

DO less.

but dont expect someone to GIVE you what you won't DO for yourself

welp he shouldve learned from his mother's situation that fast food industry isn't a good career choice.
im sorry but he is just dumb.
I don't think he's dumb I blame his parents. Same as I will blame him if he kids make the same mistakes.

You have to teach your children to do better and you have to do better for your children. Its a generational problem in my opinion.

At some point tho, it should have clicked that he needs to better his situation no only for himself but for his wife and kids.

There are also fast track courses that would put you in a position to make more and with the internet, those classes are accessible as ever.

all of this.

if you choose this type of job than you should know what to expect and you shouldn't have 3 kids.

This entire conversation is jus good ol fashion American entitlement.

Person A should be able to live the same way Person B lives without any of the work put in because...its unfair.

If you don't understand why you make minimum wage at a fast food restaurant, you don't deserve any more money.

Everyone does have the same options.

They may not come from the same situations, but we all have the same options.

Feel like yall are over simplifying things to support your opinion.

Im not even sure i know where I stand on this issue but I know its not as simple as somebody not wanting to do better so they should make $8 an hour.

People lives change in an instance all over this world yo.

I cant just blindly accept that they may have ended up with a minimum wage job by their own doing.

Give me an example of someone not having the same options has someone else.
Way too many to get into specifics but just the fact that people aren't born equal says it all.  There's a reason why the overwhelming majority of people die in the same socioeconomic class that they're born into.  Of course you have outliers but it's foolish to expect a different result.  It's like this guy, he's a 2nd generation fast food worker

but this guy has plenty of options...lets be real. stop making excuses for this guy.

we all know how this world is we shouldn't have to cater to people with no drive.

see

i just think cases like his are just the wrong face for their argument

show me the single, no dependent, minimum wage worker, missing meals and struggling

you cant because it doesnt exist

there are too many programs out there for a single person with no kids thats working to be missing meals

some would argue that if we raise the wage we wouldnt need these programs

i disagree.
i think even with the wage raised we will still have these programs.
these kind of programs will never go away.
the govt will never just turn off the faucet.

listen to your words: DESERVED

you earn whats deserved

if you havent earned the education
you dont deserve the pay

problem is people today dont believe in consequenses of actions for some people/situations

some choices produce consequences you have to live with for the rest of your life

thats LIFE.

Not everyone has the same options

you're 100% RIGHT!

everyones options are different

thats why its up to every individual to weigh their own individual options, and choose the best path for them

some paths are easier than others

thats life

but not choosing education
not choosing to have kids on a minimum wage salary
you are indirectly CHOOSING a path
a difficult one

Feel like yall are over simplifying things to support your opinion.

Im not even sure i know where I stand on this issue but I know its not as simple as somebody not wanting to do better so they should make $8 an hour

should is a strong word

no one can control your situation more than you

YOU cant control Mcdonalds
you CAN control YOUR destiny

we're not saying what they shpuld earn
we're saying their choices in life has dictated that for them

What makes yall thing raising minimum wage wont effect anything else?

If a business has to pay their employees more, prices will go up to cover that cost, putting those people right back where they started.

Raising minimum wage isnt the answer.

Raising minimum wage isnt the answer.

No one knows what the real answer is. It's become more and more obvious to me every time I see these debates online or in real life.

None of us really know and we base our opinions on this off what we think, with little to no real research or real life experience or real life trial and error action.

I support raising minimum wage to see what happens honestly. I have yet to see an argument I agree with or research to show its a good idea to keep it where it is.

Mostly just dudes on message boards complaining. But again, none of us know what will happen.

Ive posted this before, here it is again.
