I seen people in this thread say things like Jordan and Lebron are basically the same player or Kobe was a better scorer than Jordan.

prime kobe was, imo, a better scorer. dude could not be stopped by anybody. outscoring full teams.

I got to see both prime MJ and prime Kobe. The similarities are glaring. Pretty much watching the same player. I'd give Kobe a slight edge, because his game extended out to the 3-point line. Jordan was the more efficient scorer though.

all im saying is...

Jordan played in an era where it was the easiest time to be an elite isolation/post up scorer.

doubles had to be executed upon the catch, often making obvious passes one pass away, ect ect.

It's no diffrent than saying Wilt and Russel played in the best time to be a C. doesn't diminish greatness.

This is insane.

There is a large gulf between Kobe and Jordan, their games merely look similar.

I'm one of the biggest MJ fans out there. But Kobe was the better scorer in his prime. And the end of the day, Kobe's game extended out to the 3 and MJ's didn't. It was one less thing you had to "worry" about when guarding MJ.

It looked easier for MJ to score though. Smoother game.

also Steph Curry played in the best era to be an elite PG.

not diminishing greatness just pointing out fact.

When you look at it statistically, Wizards Jordan is pretty impressive.

20ppg 6 rpg 4 apg while shooting 45 percent playing wing at age 39.

Is there been any other player with a stat line like that at that age in their career?

Kareem?

that was one game. and 7-3s aint ****. kobe got the record with 12 on the sonics. everybody knew mike wasn't really a 3 point shooter like that. in fact that game happened after an article came out the day before saying he couldn't shoot them lol

It doesn't matter if MJ's game doesn't extend out to the 3.

You don't list the skills and whoever has more is better, some skills are more destructive than others. Jordan was a Dirk level midrange jump shooter doesnt matter if he doesn't shoot 3's.

3. I didn't say that player never beat their man to the, I''m just saying its tougher than it was in the 90's, defenses pre rotate, look at Lebron vs GSW, they didn't have to out right double like you would in the 90's, they just shade guys to his side of the court and wall off the paint.

1. Typo? You said it was easier to score in the 90s. I'm not going to get into that defensive rating mess. Leaves out all sorts of variables to just claim it as a fact based off that singular stat.

2. I know overall jordan wasn't that great in dc but the fact that he even had his moments against modern rules as an og pushing 40 is enough evidence for me personally to believe he would have had his way in his prime.

3. I see what you're saying but this is mj we're talking about. He's gonna get his regardless. Also not sure if that's the best example. Lebron went loco against gsw, just wasn't too efficient. I was just tripping because your original statement made it seem like an extra defender is all it would take to stop jordan or any elite player really from getting to their spots

great players adapt to the current rules of basketball

if kobe played in the 90s he wouldnt take as many 3s

if mj played in the 2000s he would take more 3s

defensive rating is basic division its not hocus pocus its a fact. it was easier to score.

the 01 rules weren't really even fully modern yet, teams didn't really exploit it until Thibbadue style zone principles became in vogue after the celtic championship thats like 05.

I agree some skills are more effective than others, but if IMO I can't see MJ as the better scorer. Kobe had more in his arsenal.

I can agree with this. Today's NBA game encourages more 3-point shooting.

MJ and KB have the same 3PT FG percentage and MJ is more efficient overall as a scorer.
