Sober 2016

How much alcohol a day and how many years of drinking will cause cirrhosis of the liver
Not something you can put a number on.  There are so many factors at play that determines your risk/likelihood of developing cirrhosis.

However, new research is showing that the development of cirrhosis has a lot to do with a person's nutritional status.  Cirrhosis is a lot more common in drinkers that skip meals in order to drink (the "liquid lunch" crowd), resulting in protein deficiencies.  Makes sense when you consider that the protein they're missing would be used to restore damaged tissues.

Was actually slowing down on drinking, when I'm out, rarely get drunk, usually just order a bourbon or two.

But the grad program I just got into, going out and drinking ("networking") is very big, so need to start boosting the tolerance again, can't be that guy

I have always been interested in hearing from people who go to AA or who want to quit drinking.

Were you guys drinking to the point of being drunk often?  Does being Sober mean not drinking at all or just not drinking to the point of being drunk?  Was drinking affecting your everyday life?  Is the reason you have stopped cold turkey is because one drink for you will likely lead to not having the ability to stop afterwards?

Alcohol also hinders protein synthesis in general so heavy drinkers' bodies are making less use of the protein they ingest. Many people don't seem to know that. Even if you have a normal diet as a heavy drinker, protein synthesis will still be impaired by the alcohol. Makes it extra important to not skip meals as a heavy drinker.

Best of luck and congratulations to all of you on the path to sobriety

How did some of yall realize yall were alcoholics and what are your reasons for being sober

Are there any negatives to NOT drinking? Like at ALL?

Serious question
Physically no. Some would argue that it makes social gatherings less pleasant but there are no real negatives to not drinking alcohol at all.

I think the occasional couple drinks here and there have a negligible negative effect but at the end of the day it's still a toxic drug.

Not drinking alcohol never changed anything for me socially IMO I'm more entertaining and funny without alcohol. When I drink everything and everybody is annoying to me

Weed does the total opposite. Mad chill and relaxed, the most regular convo turns into stomaches from laughing

Non drinker here. Always wondered why folks drinking around me seem bothered when I dont drink. I just usually say I'm driving. But still..... its almost as if Im Ethan Hawke in Training Day after robbing one of their informants.

Completely sober after smoking bud for 10+ years. Haven't smoked in nearly 2 years.

Miss smoking bud and when the time is right I'll smoke again. It's funny though, I know when I start up again I'll still be able to pearl blunts like a champ. Some **** is like riding a bike, you never forget. Will always be the best blunt roller in the room, always.

Don't drink often, maybe a handful of times in a year. Most I'll ever polish off is a 6 pack or some Henny.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've tried weed. Never could get with it.

Thought about giving up alcohol all together because I was making some poor choices. Once I realized things for what they were, I cut back a lot. Before I would drink with the intention of getting hammered or blacking out. Now I only do it socially to kick it with others. Wish I'd have tried to turn things around sooner. :smh:
