Nike Air VaporMax

Just thought I'd provide an update and some updated thoughts. Over 107 miles in running mileage, this is how my Pure Platinums are looking.

If anyone was still skeptical about durability from my initial review (link to my original review), well, there's no need. I just piled nearly 80 more miles, and the soles only faded a bare minimal amount since then. The traction doesn't work as well when it comes to sand/trail surfaces, but that's to be expected; it's not a trail shoe! Again, these shoes never touched a treadmill; it's all outdoors, with a huge majority done on concrete.

The upper is still great, still flexible, and still stretchy in areas that are needed. Nothing's changed there.

The cushioning is what's really changed, and this may be the most interesting part for a lot of you guys here. Since the review, I apparently was still going through a break-in process. Initially, I said that the shoes after being worn for running makes the shoe a bit uncomfortable when worn casually, but after getting 50 miles in, it was still softening and it got better to the point where I was able to wear it casually again. Weird, huh? Then as I went further in with miles (about 75+), the shoe really softened up to the point where the Air cushioning on the heel didn't feel as responsive anymore compared to way earlier. I mean, it was still responsive, but it became softer than it did stay as responsive without being soft like a foam, which I feel it's a good thing considering that having the same amount of a firmer responsiveness for too long can become overwhelming. A good example of the "overwhelming cushioning" feeling is the Zoom All Outs. That Zoom Air unit got you running fast, but sometimes... it's just too much bounce for you that you just get uncomfortable because of it due to either a stability issue, or the matter of the balance between the constant reactions that the human body has and the consistency of the cushioning. At least that's just me.

At the end, the shoe has changed quite an amount for cushioning, so when you guys ask if the shoes need a break-in process, it is obvious that it does. However, to REALLY unlock the **** out of it, it seems to be a very long way to go.

Although I would give it just a slight downgrade to my initial overall consensus, it's still a pretty great shoe. Combining all elements to the shoes such as aesthetics, comfort, and the story behind it, it's definitely my favorite shoe, and it's not just my "favorite of 2017." Not exactly an all-timer, but I haven't gravitated towards a shoe like this in so long.

Was giving the Navy and Orbits a good look-see at Finish this weekend since they still had good size runs.  Definitely passing on this pack.  They're not bad by any means.  Just didn't feel inclined to put out $190 for either.  Focusing on the TBs, not to mention Flyknit trainer OGs are about to get re-released.  Can only wear so many pairs.

Anybody else cop these? I thought they were the best color way; was able to pick up the last 12.
