Chicago Expecting Holiday "Blood Bath"

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/29/us/chicago-gun-violence.html?_r=0

As of Friday morning, homicides in Chicago were up 52 percent in 2016, compared with the same period a year ago, and shootings had increased by 50 percent, though the pace of violence has slowed in recent weeks, the police said. Only five months into the year, at least 233 people have been killed.

Officials are struggling with the problem, and are employing a range of strategies as the murder rate in the nation’s third-largest city outpaces that of New York and Los Angeles.

For a few hours Friday evening, under periods of pounding rain, the peace held, and the police scanners were filled with mundane reports of disturbances and crowd-control issues after a Beyoncé concert. But by Saturday morning, the police reported that 15 people had been shot, with three dead, including a 15-year-old girl.

Last year during the three-day Memorial Day weekend, there were 46 shootings in Chicago, and 14 people were killed, the police said. Other years have been quieter; in 2013, there were 22 shootings and six deaths.

Again, tell me how this is propaganda? 8o

Amazing how dense and short-sighted some individuals are. Some people are legit proud of this fact. It makes them feel "hard". Some people just don't grasp consequences.

@KingKoopa

Did you make up that thread title? The "blood bath" quote wasn't even referencing this weekend specifically... It just made for a nice catchy headline. It makes it sound like people cant wait to start popping off their guns like fireworks just because it's the holiday weekend

“If something doesn’t change, if we don’t get jobs for these kids, if we don’t change the economic situation, I’m worried that we could be looking at a blood bath"

The shootings on the south side are bad, nobody is denying that... But articles like this dont exactly help Chicagos image.

Martial law is the only way the SouthSide will turn around.

I mean, yeah I made the thread title using a quote from the article. :lol

I see what your saying but this article is centered around pending violence this weekend due to the holiday.

cmon bro, you know exactly what i mean... you asked "how is this propaganda?" when you created your own headline that is misleading.
violence is bad in the city, its memorial day weekend, cops anywhere are going to increase their manpower just in case.

It's literally an article talkin about violence during this specific holiday weekend, the **** are you talkin about?

It's just the title of a thread which was quoted from like the first paragraph of the story.

I love Chicago.

One of my favorite cities to pass through.

But there is a problem there.

This is fundamentally irresponsible and quite frankly, lazy. Nothing funny about that, even if it's factual.

No, but the laughing emoji at the end of that seemed a little out of place, no?

I wouldn't be surprised.

With an airport like O' Hares, anyone can turn into a serial killer.

I'm heading to Chicago for a concert in Douglas park this September. I had no idea it was that bad. I'm might reconsider.

Those who are from the Chicago area, are all the murders fueling the migration of ppl leaving the city to head South?

*raises hand* YES

We moved the hell away from there to Texas the day my dad got a chance to relocate for his job. Hearing gun shots and ambulance/police sirens at night was a regular thing.

Blame the laws and policies created by white lawmakers that set off this issue. Giving folks decades for selling/using crack but letting suburban johnny get a slap on the wrist for selling/using cocaine.

Also, when the **** did ninjahood return? 8o
