2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

It was long ago reported that he didn't wanna play in his hometown due to added pressures of people asking for tickets & him having to tell them no

Heard that before. I genuinely think he hates going back to DC. Remember that HBO special he had a couple of years ago? They had the scene where he went back to play in some charity game and he was absolutely miserable. He acted like there was a hit out for him and he was nervous.

KD wants nothing more than to win a ring, we know that. If he wasn't, he'd be a Laker. He aint jumping on GSW because that would look bad. Win a ring there, and so what? They just won a ring there without him a year ago. Same with the Spurs.

He wants the gratification of winning a ring because he was the main reason behind it. He sees Lebron doing it in Cleveland. He wants to do it in OKC. That just seems like the type of dude KD is. I'm not even a fan of his. But i'm a fan of OKC basketball and I'd love to see him win there, and he's oh so close.

I've felt he'd re-sign w/ OKC & Imma stick to that opinion. I think he just wants to be courted for a little. Which is cool.

The thing is regardless of where he goes he's signing a one year and the window is open to go through this same thing all over again next year, especially if it's OKC. If he stays there I think Westbrook makes or breaks whether he walks.

I don't think there's a chance in hell he goes to all of these places, ends up loving what he hears from the Spurs/Warriors and the fit with them, then says "hey I'm going back to the Thunder for a year, but save the cap space and let's do this all over again next year."

he's definitely signing the Lebron 2 year deal with option to get out after 1st with OKC. Now, if he signs the max long term deal, he gains some respect from me, not knowing whether Westbrook is coming back or not. That would be a shocker.

what major free agent didn't go through the recruiting process? Everyone does it now. Its your time to get recruited again. Everyone has an ego. You'd be an idiot to pass on that process.

All I need is a couple of BBWs some drinks

I know about the financial reasons for signing a one plus one contract, but Durant strikes me as someone who has not enjoyed the free agency hoopla this year and would like it to be over with instead of dealing with it for another year.

Please tell me...who's done it recently and decided to go right back to their same team on a one year deal? DeAndre Jordan is the only one even close and he actually signed with the Mavs and it took his teammates basically trapping him in a house to be able to get him to get out of that deal and come back on a max contract, not some one year deal to go back into unrestricted free agency the next year.

I personally think he's gone.

Does any star player really enjoy answering questions about free agency for 6 months?

Anywhere but the heat KD please.
He's not signing with the Heat

I don't think he will go through this again. The 2 year deal would be signed to see what Westbrook does. If Westbrook stays, he obviously stays. If he doesn't, KD will already know what his other options are already having gone through it.

Oh word....so you think championship contending teams like the Warriors and Spurs are just gonna sit on their hands and say "it's cool man, we'll save all our cap space and hope you come next year"

If he's leaving he's leaving this year...the winning teams he wants to join aren't waiting for anybody.

You might be right. Its kind of unprecedented for super stars to be in this situation and not go through the process. And if you're comparing him to Lebron, then yes, he's pretty much a goner.

Melo went through this and stayed with the Knicks.

LA went through this and left, but you can;t really compare him to KD. He was in Portland and the Spurs wanted him? Yeah, easy decision.

And DJ was coming back. I pretty much stated what happened with that situation before it was reported (from my source). Some will vouch for me from last seasons off season/free agent thread. DJ saying yes to Dallas was all about his agent. He did it because he's soft and went with what he thought was right because of his agent. Dude is that much of a pea brain.

No, but there will always be somewhere else who can get him. Are you saying there will never be a championship contending team each free agency period?? This is the only year where contenders are looking for players?

If you want a player badly enough, you will make it happen. You know that. Weren't the Spurs spending last year? Aren't they spending this year? Miami?? Guaranteed Cleveland would make something happen if KD was available again next year. GSW might be the only exception, but still, if they had the chance, moves would be made to clear room for KD.

Pretty simple, no?

Im pretty sure
Not sure why KD doesn't visit Minnesota. His loss...

why would KD visit Minnesota

Why not though? It's clear that Minnesota is quickly on the rise and a guy like KD gets them there soon instead of in a few years.. He can put his stamp on a smaller market team and be beloved by everyone. KAT is there to be beloved too, but he certainly doesn't seem to mind sharing the spotlight with Russ. He just wants to win, right? It seems forward thinking to me.

To be part of OKC 2.0

What's comparable? Are you talking the team or the city -- both? It's not.
