A ragtag group of teenagers run wild in the streets of the Bronx in the late 1970s as they witness the fall of Disco and the rise of Hip HOP.

Only through ep1 myself.

I'll put a dent in it tonight!

Sucks they had to split the 1st season in halves. I read they changed showrunners shortly after production began and this kind of threw things off.

I think they may be re-shooting some parts of it to clean it up and make it more focused.

Yes Shameik is a really good actor. He killed DOPE.

JJ looks to have some promise as well. He's smooth. Perfect kid to play this part.

I liked DOPE for what it was but, whether good or bad or indifferent, he did his thing in it.

About to start ep2, I hope it stays on this path

On the 3rd episode. It's a little too over the top and corny for me. I give them credit for at least trying to touch on different aspects of the culture and life in the Bronx during the 70s, but this honestly feels like some cheesy off Broadway portrayal of Hip Hop. I'll continue watching, maybe I'll change my opinion by the end of Part 1.

Show is dope...They explained a lot of what was going on during the times musically and economically..The graffiti, the clubs, the fashion, the rhymes, the DJs being bigger than the MCs at that time, the breaking...

Ep2: Ahhhhh damn man.....the spot.
They got the spot man.
Oh lord! Mylene and that dress! man they are trying
to kill the Dad. Death by heart attack!

Ep3: This episode touchdown on a lot. This show has so much potential. It can be epic. I read a short review before putting the thread up and it got some bad feedback on how NAS opens/narrates and that they open with and use "OG grainy footage" during the eps, and they thought it didn't mix well and cheapened the experience. Personally, I'm cool with it. It's all fly to me so far, I'll save any negs for a full recap when done. Enjoying it too much right now

Sidenote: one thing that does bug me is that as NAS raps, some french Montana looking dudes is performing. Why?

The guy who performs is supposed to be Zeke, I believe. It kind of bothers me too seeing a Budden lookalike spitting like Nas, but I let it slide. There were a few things that initially came off as cheesy to me, but after a while I just let go. It's a Baz. Check Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge (My girl is a big Baz fan so Ive been forced to watch both multiple times) and it's all pretty over the top and dramatic. I'm just glad we got one for ourselves finally.

Finished in two days. Wish I didn't have to wait for part 2. I kind of saw the Jaden stuff coming, but it still kind of caught me off guard. Didn't really understand the point of including that until they showed clips of how big the gay scene was back in the day. Thought it was dope to include that too. There was so much culture happening in New York and specifically The Bronx at the time.

The lyrics imply that that's Ezekiel in the present. We know that he made it as a rapper, the question is how did he get there? What happened to his crew? His girl?

I think his old lady ends up getting caught up in the life and succumbs to it..he got a little shook up in the beginning rapping about her I think, I might have to go back and rewatch that part

That French Montana looking dude is actually a cast member in Hamilton. I read a Review that said having nas rhyme while he lip syncs should be a crime  stopped reading they don't know anything about hip hop.

Anyways show is kinda messy and the noticeable cgi threw me off at times but I liked the show. Spoke to my older brother who was around during that time and went to some parties in the BX (we from Harlem going to the Bronx was risking your dam life at the time) and he said they got the feel and setting right tho

Watched all of the episodes yesterday and I thought it was pretty good.
So is Jaden Smiths character suppose to be bisexual?

Also was the preachers brother rubbing on his wife's leg at the dinner table? Something tells me that they both had some type of relationship back in the day.

All 3 of the chicks in this show are beautiful. I would put a baby in all 3 especially the chocolate chick.

Jaden being Jaden. No way he has a script. Stuff he's saying looks like his tweets.

I think mylene is papa Franco's daughter. Pops said something about "sleeping alone for 17 years" which seems about how old these kids are.
