Official 2017 Knicks Offseason thread, Phil Jackson gone

Y'all gotta learn to be less emotionally invested.

Knicks losses used to ruin my day. Now it's just the norm.
Its way better when you expect them to lose.

I tried to be open minded even though I didn't have faith in this roster.

That's the problem with dudes always wanting to be hopeful and constantly raging against what the media says. Aim low and check hope at the door. Cuz the Ls will rack up and you'll just be believing all of the other **** the media says and raging cuz of that.

You don't think we can do better than Phil? Really?
What do you mean do better?

Also is the Phil Jackson era really the worst you think it can get?

We could get the best GM/president of operations in the world it don't matter. With this roster and w/e picks trades or cant be traded that guy will be in the same situation unless you think purposely sucking for 5 years is better than now. 2 years in yall would be calling for his job too.

Maybe yall aint read my previous posts.

So the blame is on the roster and not the guy who put it together? I'm not gonna go back and forth if you think having a better GM wouldn't matter.

He is to blame for the players he brought here but I'm not surprised the team isn't better.

The team sucked since after that 50+ win season. That's also when Melo's window to compete on this team closed. So I will say when Phil got here if he aint want Melo here and didn't fit in his plans he should've traded him in his first year and not extend him. He'll have time after Melo contract is up but I don't get why he'd waste 4 seasons not doing much even if he accounted for some misfires.

I didn't have any hope for this roster like I said. That's on Phil but if Phil got fired today and new guy comes in for this offseason, he's still going to have to work off this roster which sucks. So yall would give him a pass the first season to try to set things in place to execute his vision but I don't see no miracle workers doing anything by year 2 or year 3 with a new coach or w/e else.

Also like I said in an earlier post nobody is coming here willingly. Winning attracts good players in FA. So at best guys who want to be here (that aint that good), dudes who want to be paid, and vets are signing here.

So what's the plan, a complete rebuild? Not happening with Dolan here. I'm repeating myself but whoever the next guy is he's not gonna get that hands off treatment Phil earned with his coaching legacy. Dolan wants a reason to raise ticket prices. So expect the meddling to begin when an all-star player is available in FA or to trade for.

You gotta be realistic about this. You have to look at what's happened here and look at the team currently. You think a better GM is turning this around in 3-5 years? Too many if scenarios for that to happen.

I'm not really sure what you could bring up to make me see this differently other than hoping it gets better.

I think a better GM doesn't make some of the moves Phil made. I think a better GM hires a better coach and doesn't undermine him. I think a better GM doesn't put himself in a position where he seems desperate to trade his star player and the whole league knows it and responds by trying to fleece us. I think a better GM is transparent not hiding when it's time to be held accountable.

And I also absolutely think this team is better than our record states.

I'm not wit all the copy paste shenanigans but so basically u saying cause we're always a joke we shouldn't be ripping the guy who is currently the reason we're a joke? Like basically what's the point cause 5 years from now we'll still be a joke? Is that your point?

Yes, finally someone else gets it.
We all lose the twinkle in our eye eventually.

These days, in his new home of New York, Ron Baker no longer has to worry about having one of the more recognizable faces around and constantly being courted because of it. Being in a big city, though, has brought on a host of new difficulties.

"The first couple of times I pulled up to the MSG parking lot and told the security guard I was a player, the guy did a double take and seemed skeptical," Baker said.

"But now when they see my Hyundai Sonata roll in, they know who it is and that business is coming."

Yo did he really say this?

LEGEND. Retire that man's number.

Stephen Jackson keeping it too real about Phil on that podcast. The bit about his departing San Antonio interesting too.

Who is this GM?

This just reads like hope.

When 2020 rolls around, Phil gone and the better GM inherits w/e **** show roster and coaching staff we have lets see.

Cuz I know this better GM gonna struggle under Dolan's demands. Be transparent and hold himself accountable? You must mean he'll quit.

I definitely don't. This team doesn't play any defense. This team sucks.

To me that's just the typical delusional Knicks fans sentiment. I been got hit with sobering reality. I'm disillusioned to being delusional about this franchise.

I didn't say anything about ripping Phil Jackson. Go ahead

A few posters are saying **** Phil multiple times every pg. I don't got any problem with that.

Only thing I reply to are all of these silly rationalizations and twisting reality to complain. Telling me about THJr. Telling me before Phil got here the team just needed a few tweaks  Trying to put the Knicks not developing players all on Phil like he been here since 2000. A lot of these problems yall have are long institutional and systemic problems that have progressively gotten worse.

Like basically what's the point cause 5 years from now we'll still be a joke? Is that your point?
I'm not that nihilistic yet.

From looking at the fans I'm saying yall gotta do better. Complaining about the same exact **** over and over regime to regime is not working. Its like some of you have no long term memory. I'm over all that.

The Knicks overall have sucked for 16 years. Nothing has changed. I come in here reading about Melo is a bum or Phil is the worst.

The team would probably really change when fans stop showing up. Cancel their cablevision. Stop paying for merch. Become a ghost town like Miami Heat fans. At some point you'll be fed up with being angry at ineptitude.

Need to be boycotting Dolan like ppl boycott and rally against Donald Trump.

I mean yeah at the end of the day we all know that and we also know it isn't happening anytime soon. So our best alternative was give Phil control and let him turn things around. He has failed in that regard and made a circus out of our team when we were still playing competitive ball. Sayings fans gotta do better how bout the people actually getting paid to do a job?

Repped for the new vocab word

Saying our problems are institutional and systemic (they are) and not placing blame on the guy who was brought in to fix institutional and systemic issues (i.e. culture) makes zero sense. He was given the keys. He has driven us nowhere. Last I'll say on that topic.

We really gotta start staging Knicks fan protests by not going to games lol. The Houston game was damn near empty last night and they're actually good. MSG be packed to the gills for basura. I'd love to see MSG empty for a nationally televised game just to tighten Dolan up.

Phil definitely has to do better but from the way he's moving and the fact Dolan has gave him the reins and barely said a word since I say let dude finish out his contract. I have enough patience for that.

Its really becoming clear he aint want Melo on the team from the jump. I remember his comments about Melo when he got there. So if Melo isn't in his vision I want to see what his Knicks team building around KP looks like.

He's either will have the team improve or quit or Dolan will extend him anyway. If that last option happen I'll go all the way in on Phil with no vaseline.

The ppl paid to do the job doing better goes without saying. They haven't. To me it's time for the fans to turn their backs on them. Stop accepting mediocrity.

Other fans of **** teams don't.

If you expect this franchise's deep seeded problems to be fixed and Phil was the guy brought in to change it you're gonna have to give dude 10 years to do that not 4.

There isn't a better GM turning this franchise around quickly. That would just be temporary change.

I don't think any GM/president is gonna have security and longevity to change it here. To me it starts when Dolan sells the team or dies.
