~NEW. Houston. TEXANS. Preseason Thread 2017~ Pats @ NRG

Will be an interesting week heading into the playoffs as we could be facing either the Raiders, Chiefs, or Dolphins. If the o line plays like it did for most of the Saturday game, we don't have a chance against any of those teams. If they can hold up and provide enough protection, I feel like we could beat any one of them. The defense has been playing lights out outside of giving up a big play or two like they did on that LaFell TD. The o line needs to play much better, cause otherwise, you may as well have Brock out there. I was thinking how many turnovers Brock would have thrown had he actually played. I think we definitely would have lost maybe 19 to 3 or something if he would have started, cause even though Savage didn't thrown any TDs, he didn't give the ball up either. Need more TDs, and definitely need to finish in the redzone in general.

This offensive line :smh:

At least savage refuses to throw "bad" interceptions.

Miller being out also hurt, there were a couple of runs that had Blue just took one more step / cut he would've gained heavy yardage.

Miller makes those cuts and is gone.

Clowney though :pimp:

Can't believe I missed mentioning Miller being out, but I guess I expected the running game to be more than just 3-4 yards and some dust even with Blue there. Hunt and Ervin really should have gotten more plays, but Hunt's catch & run and Blue's TD were clutch.

SCENARIO #6. MIA, OAK, SD win

RESULTING SEEDING:

1. Oakland 13-3, AFC West champion (4-2, 10-2)
2. New England 13-3, AFC East champion (4-2, 10-2)
3. Pittsburgh, AFC North champion
4. HOUSTON, AFC South champion
5. Miami 11-5, Wild card #2 (5-1, 8-4)
6. Kansas City 11-5, Wild card #1 (5-1, 8-4)

This is what we need to happen to get a easy route to a AFCCG.

Oakland & Miami missing their QBs. :pimp:

Also I didn't understand how titans had a chance to win the division while having a worst division record.

I understand there was a chance of them having a better overall record but :smh:

That's why it was important for the Texans to take care of business, and get that help from the Jags. Did not at all want a winner take all in week 17.

We gotta cut either Reem or JJoe and bring back AJ.

I know it's kinda early to be thinking about that.

Or even both [emoji]128064[/emoji]

Was listening to 97.5 yesterday and they were talking about the same thing. Bouye can get a big payday, and the only way we'll be able to pay him is if we cut one or both of them, and realistically, it definitely won't be Kareem. They mentioned possibly cutting Cushing to make up some difference as well.

Not a fan of cutting Cush.

I know he isn't the same player but still makes the defense go and is one of our leaders and has a big play in him every game or go.

I don't see the big deal in either cutting reem or JJoe or both.

I'll take my chances with AJ / KJ and bring back Charles to provide some depth / experience back there.

 @ "easy route to AFCCG". this is why we're trash.

Easiest route to an AFCCG is firing Rick Smith

Yea, cause wanting an easy route to the AFCCG is a bad thing : rolleyes

I'm sure Tom Brady wouldn't wanna play the browns / jags on his way to the AFCCG.

AJ has played well, but I'm skeptical about loading up the brinks truck for him

I feel like Cushing is almost guaranteed to be a cap casualty.

wishing for an "easy route" will have your team wearing lettermen jackets (disguised as body bags) before the playoffs and getting embarrassed in front of the whole world

I rather strive to be the actual best team in the league

all of this. thirsting to have a guy like AJ though since we've literally never employed this type of DB in our franchise history. if we let him walk, we need to find another of his mold forreal

I'd franchise him & let em figure it out.

They need to pay Deandre.

I can def rock with this.

Gotta start somewhere. Really just have to beat whoever is in front of us and go from there. I'd like to think Savage wouldn't have a complete abomination of a meltdown and alley-oop multiple possessions to the Chiefs like Hoyer did. We know the defense would hold serve until the breaking point if the offense causes them to stay on the field too long.

^ same here re: franchising Bouye

and yea, you definitely just have to beat whoever's in front of you. Only point was hoping to avoid matchups is dangerous. You have to find out who's the best and build your team to beat them. Start within the conference, then work your way out to the contenders. We've figured out how to win in our division for a long time now. Way past time to think past that.

Really, you're supposed to try to be ahead of the curve, like *sigh* the Cowboys with their OL. Which is really just an old adage. Elite trenches (on both sides) is really where it has always started, as cliche as it sounds in football.

Imma go ahead and give Rick Smith some credit too, DJ Reader is looking like a straight steal and might make big Vince expendable.

Guys like XSF, CJF, Strong, Blue, Hal, Prosch & Covington have been steady contributors.

Yea, as far as the OL, I think Smith/McNair thought Adams/Allen would solidify both positions, yet they've been very mediocre (regardless of Brock), and no one could have seen Newton having what could possibly be career-ending injuries. I also didn't see Chris Clark being flat out awful for stretches. Bosa beat his lights out that game.

Feel the same. I was looking back at that draft a couple weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised at the contributions as of now. Very solid draft, as all have made some type of leap/improvement, yet there's still some to go. I mostly get on Smith (and Kubiak at the time) for his blind loyalty as far as the whole Elway tree goes. Elway clearly duped him and Smith and they both should feel very slighted. But i think we all know if Smith were to be fired, he'd be hired on the Broncos staff in some capacity. Just look at the Broncos player and coaching roster over the past two years, they're all buddy buddy and keeping each other employed.
