**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

The things Boogie does crosses the line
It's not just technicals

Flipping off fans in the tunnel
Yelling at teammates
Making your teammates look stupid when they don't give you the ball or miss a shot
Having insane outbursts towards coaches refs reporters

I don't want to witness that behavior up close for 7-10 years
No thanks

An organization and losing seasons don't make a decent person behave that way

That behavior is who he is

Yup I root for him because he's a home state kid, but dude has been a hothead since high school. Some people are just crazy and he's one of them that can't keep his emotions in check.

It isn't even just his behavior (although his behavior is extremely toxic)

He's a horrible fit. He's extremely talented but if you're trying to pair him with a bunch of young talent, you're asking to become the Los Angeles Kings. He'd be great with more proven, veteran latent talent.

There's only a handful of guys in the league who you can say "No matter who's around him, you have player x and he guarantees me a chance at a ring" (since everything LAL does is gearing towards them becoming a contender again) DMC is not that guy.

I just don't know why you would give away your assets for DMC. He's not good enough to lead a bunch of young guys, w/a young coach, into the playoffs. You'll probably lose a lot of games with him, (because you're going to inevitably give up all your good players to get him) which will lead to more strikeouts in FA (Losing is the #1 reason why LAL hasn't gotten close to getting anyone of merit in FA IMO)

PHX with the win...

Big tankapalooza game the last one before the all star break. It's a must lose in my opinion if we are serious about that 2 spot. H2H vs Phoenix on the 2nd night of b2b. No room for error.

That lineup will get you an average of.....

23-27 wins the next 4 years.

Like I said, fostering a losing culture without a single Alpha to lead the team who has the balls to say, "Follow me if you want to win, I'm bout to go guns blazin up in this *****."

neither cousin nor melo have displayed that kind of leadership you talk about.

Melo has. Took the Nuggets to the WCF under George Karl. Ever since he became a Knick he's been placed in a position to fail and one of disadvantage because of Dolan's sorry ***.

Cousins is young. He'll succeed if you put him in an organization with proven champions (Magic, Luke, Mitch, Shaw) that he can look up to and respect. And if Boogie became a Laker, I bet Kobe would check him too.

That Nuggets team had Billups and K-Mart as veteran leadership. Melo was just the best player.

Assumptions. Again, it's a high risk thing and you would be out of your damn mind IMO to give up your assets in the hopes that he changes his ways.

Then, you have to figure out how to build around Boogie because all of your best pieces are gone.

Just not worth it.

Melo had vets like billups, Kenyon Martin
Young studs in nene, jr smith , even Linas kleisa was out there balling at times . Not to mention guys like a healthy spry birdman and a goon in dahntay jones

Assumptions. How do you know all of your best pieces would be gone by acquiring Boogie?

Lakers could still keep damn near most of their assets because Boogie's contract is only about $17 mil per. You could literally only trade Randle, Deng, plus a future second rounder for Boogie if Sacramento was stupid enough to do it. Or Clarkson, Randle, Robinson, and Huertas.

Yeah, and Melo LED them. That's my dam point.

You put solid pieces around Melo (something which he has NEVER had in NY) and Melo all of a sudden looks good leading a team.

Yeah, and Melo LED them. That's my dam point. Dude was the go-to player who not only put up 25-35 a night, but also was one of the best rebounding SF's in the league and guarded the opposing team's best wing player.

So this whole thing about boogie hinges on the Kings being stupid enough to not ask for more than Robinson, Huertas, Deng, and Randle in return for their franchise player....

Aight man

Bro I don't even think you believe this. If that's the case, then there's no way they would make a deal w/LAL in the first place when there's a billion other teams who could put together a package for boogie that's better than this lol

Okay....DLo, Randle, and Clarkson for Boogie. Or how about Randle, Young, and Lou for Boogie. Still doesn't mean the Lakers gut their team to acquire him. LOL

Vlade, Shaq (albeit 5% minority owner) = Kings but bleed purple n gold.

Magic = Lakers

Kupchak, apprentice = Lakers

Jerry West, master = Grizzlies, but bleed purple n gold

McHale = Timberwolves

Ainge = Celtics

Just sayin'

25-35?
He averaged like 22-23pts a game

I'll admit he had a better team in Denver than he's ever had in NY

But that was 7 years ago
He's not an all star anymore , and he ain't guarding anything anymore (not like he was guarding a prime Kobe at all , that was on jones or even billups)

Point is :
He's not the guy to Lead the lakers, let alone any team going forward

I think D'Lo could play just fine with Clarkson too. Nick is a hindrance in the sense that he's gone after this season. I need him and Lou outta here.
^^^ This! I keep telling people that they need to get Nick out of here. The only reason why I want him here which is not much is because I like watching his antics.

Is it a coincidence that Jim Buss made his self-imposed deadline for this offseason, which is the same time Jerry West's contract with Golden State expires?

Hmmm....

And is it a coincidence that all of a sudden Magic is hired the same year that Jim's self-imposed deadline is set to expire and within days says he wants to "call the shots?"

Hmmm....

If Jerry West decides to come on board this summer, I find it hard to believe he will assume the GM role or VP role because he is, after all, 78 years old and recently had a nasty fall that caused him to go to the hospital.

Instead, I can see Magic taking over Jim's position as Executive VP of Basketball Ops.

Mitch remains GM.

Jim takes a back seat from basketball matters.

Jerry West comes on board as a senior adviser/consultant, which is essentially the same role he's had with the Warriors.

Jerry then grooms his son to eventually take over Mitch's position as GM and at the same time Jerry becomes Magic's most trusted right hand man as they both work in tandem at the executive level to put the Lakers back in their rightful place atop the NBA.

lol, far from it.

Meanwhile, the RIVAL Boston Celtics are 2.5 games out of the top seed in the East and Ainge is laughing at the Lake Show.

To think Magic Johnson is standing at a parking lot in El Segundo with pom poms is the same ridiculous thing as thinking Jeanie and Jim don't have a care in this world about winning and urgency (aka the empire Dr. Buss built) and instead will settle for mediocrity and tanking while the bank account continues to grow.

26 games left
We're on pace for 28 wins assuming no trade deadline deal
That's quite an improvement year over year

If we can luck into our pick to go with the improvement in wins/losses, we'll have some good momentum going into the offseason

Some of you must not be familiar with the "Buss Formula."

Any of you know who Bill Sharman is?

Coach of the Lakers in '71-'72, the year the Lakers won the chip after winning a still-NBA record 33 straight. He coached Jerry West.

Sharman then became GM of the Lakers under Buss' ownership and was the one who orchestrated the Lakers' title winning teams in the early 80s after Jerry West's failed attempt at coaching.

After the Lakers won the '82 chip, West took over the GM role, succeeding Sharman. The rest is history.

West then grooms Kupchak, who played in all of the Showtime teams under Pat Riley. Kupchak eventually succeeds West to become GM. West also groomed Pat Riley, who later becomes the President of Basketball Ops for the Heat, a team that wins multiple titles under Riley. The Heat comes to be known as Lakers East and has West's footprints all over it.

Those of you who honestly think the Lakers will fire Mitch and hire an outsider to replace him have no idea.

The Lakers have ALWAYS hired ex-Lakers for their top management positions. They groom their guys IN-HOUSE. That's the Buss family way. And it's the very reason they didn't hire anyone outside the organization to become VP of Basketball Ops prior to Jim Buss assuming the role. FYI, Jim Buss has been mentored by Jerry West, Mitch, and Dr. Buss since the late 90s.

Furthermore, the Buss Formula is the reason why Magic was brought on board, and is why there are rumors West might come back to help Magic do his thing in order to re-align the organizational mission and vision.

The whole notion that Magic ain't nothin' but a mascot has got to be more ridiculous than putting mud guards on a honda civic with a body kit slammed to the ground.
