I kept hearing espn is falling off but i never paid it any mind.

I only really watched sportscenter and still do but is it that bad or whats the deal?

The biggest business story in American sports this fall isn't the declining NFL ratings or anything that's happening on the field, court, or ice, it's the collapse in ESPN subscribers, which reflect a larger trend in the collapse of cable subscribers in general.

Yesterday Nielsen announced its subscriber numbers for November 2016 and those numbers were the worst in the history of ESPN's existence as a cable company -- the worldwide leader in sports lost 621,000 cable subscribers. That's the most subscribers ESPN has ever lost in a month according to Nielsen estimates and it represents a terrifying and troubling trend for the company, an acceleration of subscriber loss that represents a doubling of the average losses over the past couple of years, when ESPN has been losing in the neighborhood of 300,000 subscribers a month.

These 621,000 lost subscribers in the past month alone lead to a drop in revenue of over $52 million and continue the alarming subscriber decline at ESPN. Couple these subscriber declines with a 24% drop in Monday Night Football ratings this fall, the crown jewel of ESPN programming, and it's fair to call October of 2016 the worst month in ESPN's history. But this isn't just a story about ESPN, the rapid decline in cable subscribers is hitting every channel, sports and otherwise. It just impacts ESPN the most because ESPN costs every cable and satellite subscriber roughly $7 a month, over triple the next most expensive cable channel.

ESPN doesnt really offer you anything that you cant find on free internet somewhere.

SportsCenter is on a repeat (even though they say its live) until a show comes on. Those shows also are repeated twoce during the day.

the d*** riding they do doesnt help either. And MNF games have been garbage (along with the other primetime games). There hasnt been a good one yet.

Other than watching a live game, you dont need ESPN

I studied media but i dont really get how this works. If i cut the cord on cable then i cut the cord on all channels i had in my package. My question is do people solely susbscribe to espn and there channels. For me, my basic cable company package includes it, its not like i have to ask for it specifically.

ESPN is trash anyway, so it was bound to happen. Sans pti, lebatard, bomani and max kellerman, the channel is terrible.

Stopped watching ESPN over a year ago. Most of their tv personalities are terrible, and a lot of their articles are written poorly. Also cut the chord around the same time so I guess it makes sense.

Their content is available through other sources.

I used to watch around the horn
Highly questionable
First take

They were ok to me

30 for 30 was straight.

I didnt realize they fell off so much doe lol

Where do yall go online for highlights/news?

Bleacher reporrt?

Ratings decline but that's normal. Their ratings blow fox sports 1 out of the water.

The only thing on ESPN I still watch is NBA games. I do listen to the Lebatard show on ESPN radio daily, and I don't even listen live.

It's not just ESPN.

People who do hate ESPN are just front runners.

ESPN >>>>> any other sports outlet.

I don't know what people want from them

You can watch better highlights of each individual game all over the Internet. Only time i watch ESPN is live sports. 24 hours of sports is overkill when they only cover the popular teams.

Glad they losing money. Maybe they'll try different things and better programing.

I only watch Basketball so NBAtv covers my highlight/rebroadcast games. The movie Concussion I believe helped the decline of Football in general.

I was watching late night a few nights ago and they had the Drone Racing League. It was actually pretty cool. They were competing in an abandoned mall.

They show those e-gaming competitions between colleges too which is entertaining.

I'm no ESPN stan but cats is acting like there's some other sports programming channel that's killing the game right now.

Nothing can compete with the access that comes with the internet.
ESPN is still top dog, just so happens to be in a declining market.
