Whats wrong with ESPN?

They pay $2 billion to air MNF, and the NFL rewards them with awful games that nobody watches.

These layoffs are just an attempt to show a good faith effort at trying to cover their losses. The people that got laid off are innocent bystanders caught in the line of fire.

There's no way those salary cuts help cover the money they have to pay the NFL and NBA.

It's only going to get worse as people continue to cut cable, and ESPN still loses money.

The NFL is slowly dying, and it's probably going to kill ESPN first. :smh:

But yeah, today's a day where a lot people tell on themselves about how they really feel about the people that work at espn.

So the point of lay offs, is basically to be cheap and let people go because they don't think they are worth their salary?

His & Hers is by far.....the BEST show on ESPN in decades.

Jemele gets racist, misogynistic hate. She's cool as a fan, and knowledgeable.

 wasn't even the hottest show in it's prime, Highly Questionable is a lot better across the board. Together, Smith and Hill are not funny to me AT ALL.

With that said, I salute Smith, it's dope asf to see how far he's come and he really hasn't changed up along the way. Jemele cool peoples, there's always been something I've liked about her. Ironically, I like her more when she's on her own.

******* clown. Give your ring and '01 salary to Ray Lewis

I always thought Dilfer was cool and got some unwarranted hate but gah damn

they can fire whoever they want as long as they keep the lebatard show together

Very underrated show :pimp:

The lebatard show is overrated to me. I've been trying to give it a chance but it gets boring and corny real quick . Dude stays telling lame zokes that aren't funny [emoji]128514[/emoji]. Bomani or bust.

You saying Highly Questionable or the Lebby Show is overrated?

You can still cut cable and pay for ESPN. PS Vue, YouTube and Sling still have ESPN you're paying for. There's just so many other ways to see games, highlights and news so you don't really need ESPN like you used to.

LeBetard's show in the morning is kind of weird. It's funny at times but there's times I have no clue how they're even on the air because they're not talking about ****. I prefer HQ. I thought they might cut Bomani because white people hate him. He be having me so weak on twitter. Some white guy told him a few days ago that not all slaves had it that bad, some were treated nicely. I was weak.

Live rights to sporting events will keep ESPN relevant, end of story.

The bread and butter of SportsCenter is what has sort of become irrelevant.

Really enjoyed Ethan Strauss.

I hope Sarah Spain didn't get cut. She could get it.

i saw somebody on twitter make the analogy that espn was going to become to sports what mtv is for music...

thats going too far IMO.

I do think they are playing catch up and gotta trim down but I dont think they are on their last leg or even in jeopardy... long as they are airing games they will be fine.

what's stopping each respective league to do it themselves?

ESPN is a glorified middleman.

it seems like it's already going that route to me with Jemele and Michaels "Sportscenter on the 6" which they advertise as covering sports and entertainment. They be hyping Scott Van Pelt like he's Kimmel or Fallon.

Pretty much just watching the 30 for 30's at this point

id rather watch espnnews 30 min "episodes" on repeat honestly. i just want sports

30 for 30 has been some of the best television programming I've seen in my life. Those documentaries are so well done and have been a saving grace for the network but last I checked those episodes could be found on Netflix. E:60 is pretty inspiring and insightful as well.

That's why I don't get all of the recent flack ESPN is catching for dabbling in political and social issues as they relate to the world of sports. Bob Ley and Outside the Lines have been touching on controversial issues for decades now.

As joe cool23 joe cool23 mentioned, ESPN is putting a lot of stock in MNF and the NFL/NBA in general to drive ratings and subscriptions. When ESPN was first getting their wings beneath them and they were airing primarily NCAA and MLB games I don't recall them having the dilemma they're in now. Business and opportunity expanded and so did the budget.

They made some investments that didn't generate the desired return. Just looks like they may have possibly bitten off more than they could chew and it's finally catching up to them.

committed programing for political content on espn >>>>> da gradual political editorializing of every story by every analyst depending on their political leanings.

I don't mind ESPN doing da TMZ lite thing SOMETIMES (gun charges, drugs, melo divorce, baby mama drama, etc)...but CNN/Fox political thing spread out all day when i just want X's & O's? nah b..

I mean laying off 100's of employees is never ideal. So yeah you could say it's catching up to them in that sense.

But ESPN's investment into live rights acquisitions is what will keep them standing no matter what. Advertising $ is bigger than anything else.

The other programming is supplemental. And quite frankly, I like that they're remodeling. Sportscenter needs to be more than highlights. I can catch Highlights on youtube or Instagram in quick 15 second clips. That's the way people are viewing them now anyways.
