ALIEN-verse : Covenant (May 19, 2017) - Universe to Expand 2019

i cant say i was disappointed with anything in Covenant, it ended up being what many of us suspected

im sure some algorithm exists they use to maximize profits in all movies that they dont like to deviate from.

Nolan seems to be the biggest scifi name out there not afraid to deviate from that formula and has the studios to back him.....i guess?

how silly is it to pick the nerdiest genre to make a 'dumb characters doing dumb stuff' movie?

of course they are going to notice and complain

And dude just came off the Martian.. and original alien was like jaws and Jurassic park where it mad a lot out of a little

No clue why dude is sacrificing on story for other aspects.. thought dude would have learned from kingdom of heaven

a Redditor is readingthrough the book and while he's updating as he goes, the early pages already fill in a lot of the missing info/common sense:
More Franco - similar to Shaw's dream sequence in Prometheus, we're introduced to Daniels via a recollection of her and Jacob in a drab, featureless futuristic city discussing their upcoming mission while looking over blueprints for their cabin.

There's much more banter between the crew members, especially from Tennessee, who cracks wise a lot more often than he did in the final film. Also, Daniels' relationship with Oram seems a touch more contentious from the very beginning - we get the impression of her being a bit tougher, more cynical than her fellow shipmates earlier on.

Walter rolls Daniels some spliffs to try and ameliorate her grief - that's one considerate android!

We also find out why they run around the planet without helmets; Walter leaves the ship first to test the air and water, revealing that it's free from pathogens and pollutants "right down past the molecular level." Ledward actually remembers this when he sees the spores for the first time, reasoning that they cannot be dangerous because Walt gave them the all clear. Oh, and the spores shoot the eggs into his ear through some kind of proboscis, they do not just zip into his ear as in the film.

So, nothing terribly interesting so far, but it does add a little depth and colour to the characters and their motivations. Curious why they cut the scene with Walter testing the planet for contagions, especially after Prometheus' helmet controversy. It doesn't make sticking your face into an alien spore any less stupid, but it does at least explain why the crew were so blase about it.

Will update this post as I read more - very curious to see if the sequence in which David nukes the Engineers is expanded upon in any meaningful way.

^Sounds great, keep us updated.

Felt like Shaw was wasted man. She was supposed to be the center of attention for the sequel to Prometheus. Wish she had continued her role man. I remember that stitch/staple scene in Prometheus. With her thunder thighs and abs

Definitely was and this is where a midquel film would come in handy. I'd like to see what happens between these two films being expanded upon. In my opinion, we should get a second film with Shaw as a major character, ending with David betraying her, and then you go into Covenant, where she's long dead. That makes for a better story arc to me, because I didn't hate what was done with her in this film or what was done with David. It just comes off as choppy based on where the two were at the end of the previous film, especially for Shaw's character.

It took me a while to realize what I was lookin at besides the bape logo

Thought that was Admiral Ackbar before I read it

But Shaw annoyed the hell outta me me in Prometheus for some reason. Maybe I needed to look closer at her abs to change my opinion

I didn't hate this movie but I didn't love it either. I loved Prometheus though and was hoping for more character development and much more info on the Engineers and their way of life, I was let down in that category. This just seemed like a bunch of dumb*** people doing dumb*** things so that they could be Alien food. Was hoping to at least get some hope that Shaw was alive waiting to be rescued or something. Nope, she's was WAY PAST a rescue stage. I feel like they really wasted a chance on this one and I left the theater with more questions than answers.

Prometheus was amazing, I dunno what all the backlash was about...my only gripe is how they have yet to expand on it...

prometheus was good, but could've been a lot better.

From reading the replies in here, I'll just wait next week to watch covenanf.

I like Ridley but they have to give David Fincher another run at an Alien film. Dude just brings the suspense.

Prometheus was a damn let down.. so many ways they could have gone and end up with a great movie.. pieces were there

I just assumed Scott had lost his fast ball between that and the counselor.. but dude delivered with the Martian

Fincher got screwed by the studio on Alien 3, but I thought it was a pretty decent movie.

The feel/vibe throughout was definitely Fincher. Loved that part about it.

His use of color and the music score was on point in my opinion. The death of Hicks and Newt was an abrupt start, but very much throwing the audience into a new chapter. I'm curious if he still dismisses the film today as he walked before the editing finished.
