This IS a sequel to Prometheus....no one is sure if there are gonna be Engineers or not....from what I can gather reading online.

Wait, Ridley Scott is quoted as saying "Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why," "They're going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made," , and "Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.".

I'm just going off the credible spoilers that I saw on another site which align with the trailer
I think the trailer lets us know pretty much that it's not going to be Prometheus 2
- David and Shaw find the planet. David introduces the black goo to the lush world and engineers and pretty much kills them and shaw( she's only in a flashback)
- the covenant ship gets a distress beacon and goes to the planet
- David continues to experiment with the Goo and xenos
- like a true monster movie the cast gets picked off one by one etc
- and that main character lady is Ripleys mom because we can't not have destiny be a part of everything

Prometheus wasn't an alien movie. It was a sci fi movie about discovering the reason why and who created life(earth etc). This movie is an Alien movie that's going to basically bridge the gap to how the series was started. Prometheus went down hill as soon as they started introducing horror elements and devolved it into a cat and. Ouse slasher movie. This seems to be that from the start

Prometheus is an Alien movie. This will go into how the xenomorphs were created by the engineers. We see the xenomorphs in Prometheus.

Furthermore, they appeared before the end of the film anyways. Not sure how so many people missed this, because this comes up all the time when discussing the film. There's a mural of an Alien when the group enters the Engineer stronghold.

Shaw only being in this movie briefly makes me mad. One of the best things of prometheus was the end with her getting on a ship. That part got me hyped for a potential sequel and what she'd find.
Is civil war a sequel to Age of Ultron? No. It may reference the previous movie but it's not a sequel. They aren't making a sequel to Prometheus. They are making a prequel to Alien

Same. Plus, I genuinely enjoyed her character and everything she went through. Was looking forward to her being the main again. Yet ****boy David gets to stick around for a major role it seems

This isn't rocket science man. There are literally characters in Covenant that are continuing the storyline from Prometheus.
