Five people were killed after gunmen opened fire in a Quebec City mosque during evening prayers, the mosque's president told reporters on Sunday.

Earlier, a witness told Reuters that up to three gunmen fired on about 40 people inside the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center. Police put up a security perimeter around the mosque and declined to comment to reporters about the incident.

"Why is this happening here? This is barbaric,” said the mosque's president, Mohamed Yangui.

In June 2016, a pig’s head was left on the doorstep of the cultural centre.

Yangui, who was not inside the mosque when the shooting occurred, said he got frantic calls from people at evening prayers. He did not know how many were injured, saying they had been taken to different hospitals across Quebec City.

UPDATE

wouldn't be surprised if its an inside job to get back at canada for being pro immigrant .... cant put anything past those clowns

During prayer :smh: :smh:. For those who don't know, there is only one way into prayer rooms at mosques so you don't walk in front of people, meaning they were most likely shot in the backs completely unaware of what's going on behind them :smh:

Damn. Only a week into President Trump and the world is getting nuttier by the day. No, I can't directly blame him, but we can't deny the climate that his behavior and speech is helping push toward a tipping point

R.I.P to the victims.

there's been a running narrative under current about Canada being morally superior and a step above sophistication to America because their 180° stance on immigration and lack of terrorists incidents...

What's wrong with you :smh:

it's clearly a tragedy...that's pretty obvious...I'm referring to da impending after effects of this.

Canada is supposed to have super tight gun laws too...hmmm..I wanna see this unfold as far as coverage and how did it happen.

And that's what you choose to immediately go to instead of acknowledging the loss of lives. Truly a sociopath.

The thought of these people minding their own business in a place of worship and not being able to return home, possibly to families; for no good reason is deeply saddening.

R.I.P to the lives lost, man :smh:

They have been targeted before by hate crimes. Someone last year made a video threatening the mosque after throwing a pigs head on door :smh:

Two men have been indentified ill wait for more reliable sources before posting their pictures

If it is them, wanna guess what they look like? :rolleyes

I prefer to get confirmation, plus slot of misinformation spreads in the immediate hours after a terrorist attack. I hate when they do my poeple like that I can only extend that courtesy to them.

Also this happened in French Canada I believe. I would look at what's going on in France and their policies toward Muslims to get a idea of what happened here. White nationalism is powerful in France right now and guess who's feeling the full force of that right now.

Post them after confirmation. Reddit had random dudes getting death threats after the Boston Marathon attacks from false IDs.

RIP to the victims.

No one should be killed over their religion.

This is a tragedy, all my prayers to the victims and the families.

there's been a running narrative under current about Canada being morally superior and a step above sophistication to America because their 180° stance on immigration and lack of terrorists incidents...

Are you implying the immigration policy of Canada caused that terrorist incident? Or any other terrorist incident for that matter?

Let's run the numbers from the Global Terrorism Database :

76 terrorist incidents from 1970-2015 in Canada
2693 terrorist incidents over the same period of time in the USA

that's roughly 2.12 incidents per 1 million canadian VS 8.37 incidents per 1 million american.

quadruple the incidents in the USA even when we control the population factor. But sure a more strict immigration policy will protect against terrorism.

Here is the map :

View media item 2316395

Also according the the Global Terrorism Index,

USA scored a 4,613 ranking 34th worldwide

and Canada scored a 2.297 ranking 71st worldwide (better than spain, norway, australia, sweden, italy, france, greece, etc.)

So Canada must be doing something right regarding terrorist attacks i'm assuming?

I do believe Canada is being morally superior right now regarding immigration because no one in desire of safety should be turned down based on his country of origin.

Canada is supposed to have super tight gun laws too...hmmm..I wanna see this unfold as far as coverage and how did it happen.

Regarding the never ending debate about gun laws and if they cause more violence, here is a few numbers :

Americans are killing 51 times more people with guns than Canadians are.

There have been 7,089 gun-related deaths in the U.S. since the start of 2016, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Over 300 of the victims were children, 947 involved a police officer shooting/killing a perpetrator, and 179 were mass shooting incidents.

In comparison, there has been 2 mass shooting incidents in Canada in 2016 (causing 7 deaths).

Does owning a gun makes people violent? I don't think so. But having a gun in your possession makes it easier to shoot people when a violent incident occurs.

There is 20 firearms per 100 canadians VS 89 per 100 americans.

Is gun violence inexistant in Canada? Of course not. If somebody really wants to find a gun in Canada, he can find one. But having less weapons in circulation leads to less crimes involving guns. I do believe that's a good thing.

I don't mean to derail this thread from the tragedy that occured.

Also If anybody wants my sources regarding the numbers, i will provide them.
