What car would you buy that's under $5k?

Cadillac CTS has a good engine, can run a good amount of time IMO. It just with GM they have annoying little problems, like steering power pump always breaking, etc.

I think Toyota is the best brand, but for what some of these people want for their used high mileaged cars, forget about it, go American. Just buy a good American car , they can be found, just do homework. Easy as hell to work on too

I just saw a Cadillac CTS used, under 100K for $5k, clean car. vs a used Lexus LS430 vs with 181k for same price. Thats a 80k mile difference, same price.

That's what I've been seeing, a lot of people want top dollar for their Toyota just cause it's a Toyota. I would be fine with a 2003+ Camry but from a fun stand point, a CTS, Impala or Grand Prix or possibly a cheap Charger seems good too.

check a 2006 volvo S60R

Will do!

Underrated whip, used to always want one.

2006+ Impala
2005+ Grand Prix
2008 Malibu (a stretch at $5k)
2003+ CTS

2002+ Camry
2003+ Accord

Those first are absolutely terrible choices don't waste your money. Get one of the second two Japanese cars you listed.

and for the love of god stop being friends with anybody who recommends a Saturn aura.

I can't imagine any Pontiacs being worth to get now. When they get old, they get oooooooold

Lexus GS 300.. Just picked one up and its looking good and running beautifully.

My SC 300 is doing well as well

I'll also cosign a clean Volvo even though maintenance could be a little finicky

Forgot about a GS300

My dad had a 07 Malibu. I took it to the mechanic when there weren't any heat coming in (among other problems), and I asked the guy at the shop what the problem was. His response: you bought an American car.

I'd go with Toyota, followed by Honda. Nissan seems to have many problems after a few years. Mazda rusts too much.

I know everyone is saying Toyota or Honda because of longevity. Longevity isn't exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want a forever car. Just something solid that's still modern. Something that'll look good on summer days driving around. Work isn't a long drive. It's just several blocks and up a big hill so I'm not going to be putting crazy miles on it daily/weekly

All these post and no mention of a beat up and busted hemi or m3?

NT changing :smh

Someone already said the Belly whip lol

Dear god

What you are asking for doesn't come for under $5,000, while not giving you problems. Even if it's under a year of ownership, you'll be regretting it. Trying to get something nice/modern and cheap is not something you want to do, save up your money and get a nicer car later on. Not sure what would even be modern for under $5,000

I think $5k is a decent amount. In 2007 I bought a 1998 Acura RL with 130k miles on it for $3500. I literally got asked several times if I'd sell my car from people.

Let me find a pic...

Besides the A/C going out I never had any real issues with the car. Gave it to my lil brother after he graduated. WHAT A MISTAKE!

I also bought a 1996 Mazda Millenia in 2006 for $2800. $5k is a decent amount on a car.

Example.. A 2006-2014 generation impala wouldn't be considered modern? Or a 07 Grand Cherokee? I think there's plenty cars in the $5k range that look modern. There's 90s cars that look modern still. It's not about saving up to get a better car, I just don't want to spend more than $5k. And I wouldn't buy a car who someone is selling after just a year of ownership lol. That's car buying 101.

This. They don't even make Saturns or Pontiacs anymore. Why would you do that to yourself?
