Broadcast of David Ortiz roast cancelled b/c of racist jokes...

Ninja, with your run tell Meth antics in the other thread, you are in no position to talk.

political thread ≠ Comedy thread

nice try.

why is that leaky hefty bag of garbage of a thread dripping over here anyways?

ya still aggy bout da banned raccoon gifs ehh? :smh:

Just saw the Gronk bit on YouTube. It's not funny. HOWEVER, I don't think it's as bad as some of you are crying about. It's a roast. Boo-hoo. If the jokes were written well and delivered well AND were funny, it would have worked the room. But the fact that they aren't funny, it comes off as insulting and racist. Jokes were way harder in some of the Comedy Central ones - Charlie Sheen and Flavor Flave for example. Some of those are hilarious.

Modern PC has a bit to do with it, I want to agree with Ninja, BUT in this particular case, the jokes were terrible and seemed he tried too hard to be funny and came off as racist. Maybe going for shock value when you suck at joke writing isn't the way to go. lol.

If you get offended by anything that belong in a comedy club, you don't get stand up.

If you start removing topics because theyre offensive to someone then you cant talk about anything. There will ALWAYS be something that is said in stand up that will offend someone.

It's either everything goes, or ban stand up comedy.

Like I said. In comedy, EVERYTHING goes.

the dude made a joke about black ppl running from/getting killed by police :smh:

I mean, roast jokes are low hanging fruit and meant to offend to some degree. I think it was the bieber roast where Jeff Ross went below the belt like none other when going at Pete Davidson's deceased father. He also went at Shaq as well. Everyone on the panel took it in stride as going in you pretty much know what to expect in that particular setting.
I think there's a difference. Gronks jokes were poorly crafted and delivered

"Why are there Jews in football. To get their quarterback"

That's a garbage joke and lazy. Only for shock value.

Contrast that with Sarah Tiana's joke

“Anthony [Mackie] is here because we needed someone to be racist to and Adam Jones had a game tonight,” Tiana said to a chorus of boos.

It's better crafted and takes current issues in Boston

 What the hell that gotta do with an Ortiz roast? jesus christ Gronk, cringe. Tiana's however was topical, harsh and hit someone actually at the event. Airing it on a sports network was still an awful idea. Comedy is not dying like some of you wan't to proclaim, a great comedian adjusts with the times, just don't force it in places it doesn't belong.

Gronk aside, I agree 100%.

Take his jokes out of the question and just look at comedy as whole. If you're easily triggered by certain stand up or stand up in general, DON'T WATCH IT or leave the club. The comedian doesn't give 2 **** about target audience. He/she has material they want to share, and it's up the audience to pick and choose what they want to see. You can't please everyone and people ARE going to be offended, maybe even you...deal with it. It's comedy and it's one of the flagships of free speech. As long as it's funny, I'm game for whatever jokes are thrown around.

So by your logic if a comic says it would be funny if round up all the n-words and lynched them, it would be cool?

A comic can say whatever he wants on stage, but he/she does have immunity from backlash. That is the risk they take

There will and has always been backlash from people who don't get comedy. It hasn't stopped them and shouldn't from making jokes about whatever they want. Don't watch the roast or watch standup if you don't get it.

Also, there is a difference between standup, and hate speech. It's pretty obvious spotting which is which.

It's all fun and games until white people get lit up.
This is my problem with the "it's only comedy" crowd.

If Kevin Hart stands up at a roast as makes some jewish jokes....they're getting him the **** up out the paint and launching a slander campaign like no other.
There's only one group of people you can't criticize in Hollywood.

On one hand I want to say NESN had no clue what they were getting into, because these things ALWAYS cross the line. That's kind of the point of a roast.

But you have to know, especially as someone who isn't a professional comedian, that some jokes just aren't going to play well coming from an athlete for an NESN roast.

They should have just had Comedy Central air it. There would have been backlash, but it would have been much less than this.

I just wanna see Burr's set and I'm good on this.

jokes weren't good is absolutely right.

yep, its a genre/art form that thrives on free form uninhibited speech...you can't have a "carve out" on just good jokes cuz who's da arbiter on whats a good joke in a stand up/comedic setting?

da real moral of da story here is if you're not a comedian by trade and u gotta do a roast..hire some writers.

gronk is a pos

the stuff he gets away with no black athlete could :smh:

deep down I think dude is a racist, something off about him in general

still confused why so many people like him

You'd think some stories would've come out by now if that were the case...

Dude has always been a bit of a meathead so I don't really think he was being purposely malicious, just got that frat bro sense of humor. Dumb jokes all around including the Jewish one but I don't think there's any more to it than that IMO

Yeah that ain't funny. It's innocent black people out here getting killed by the cops who get away with it. Nah.

It's the same **** as the Bill Maher situation. It's all good comedy til you offend white folks. Let a black comedian start telling jokes about putting people in ovens and gas chambers... Hell white folks get offended when black comedians tell jokes about how racist white people are.

I think the thing people are missing is no one at the roast was bothered, the sports network was the one that pulled it. You can't be up here upset at a sports network that doesn't even allow cursing or anything offensive pulling a low brow roast. This is a waste of energy. It's a sports network.

Calling on the death of comedy because a family oriented sports network pulled a crude roast. It's a sports network.

While I agree 100%, I'm not sure what they knew what they were getting when they booked Bill Burr and Sarah Tiana to conduct a roast of a big black man in Boston. You'd think they would have had expected this.

Like, are Bostonians that daft?

Yea I haven't heard any actual complaints from the subject of the roast, Big Papi, either

They're usually full of off-color jokes by design,it's a roast after all

Sit down! You're too busy watching 18 hours of FOX news a day to even pass a valid opinion about today's comedians.

da next level of PC is gonna be "group A" having a problem with "group B" laughing at jokes about "group A" and feeling offended.
you stay talking about PC this and PC that but when people make fun of you in the political thread you get ALL IN YOUR FEELINGS and go crying to meth every chance you get

eff outta here snowflake

Yall better chill before he press that button
