TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Two of Alabama's freshman signees from the 2014 class will not be here this fall.

Alabama is appealing to get Northport running back Bo Scarbrough on campus "because he's very close" to qualifying academically. Scarbrough, who played at Northridge High School from ninth through 11th grade, attended and played for the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., as a senior.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban said that "it will take some time" and the goal is to have Scarbrough in by January.

"We have an appeal in place because he is very close to qualifying," Saban said. "That will take some time. We will have a plan (for him) at his high school for him to try and do the things he needs to do to finish and our goal is to get him here in January."

Scarbrough's listed number in the preseason media guide was No. 1, but receiver Chris Black was wearing No. 1 on Friday in the Crimson Tide's opening practice. Black previously wore No. 5.

Saban confirmed that Montel McBride did not qualify and will be placed in junior college. The offensive lineman is headed to Iowa Western Community College.

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma officials feel very confident about their chances to get wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham approved for immediate eligibility with an NCAA waiver, sources told The Oklahoman.

OU still hasn’t filed the appeal yet, but plans to send it to the NCAA soon after they receive additional documentation from Missouri.

According to sources, OU will appeal using the so-called “run-off” waiver, created by the NCAA a couple years ago for players who were removed from their programs for reasons beyond their control. Oklahoma State’s basketball team added senior point guard Anthony Hickey, a three-year starter at LSU, and Hickey was granted immediate eligibility under the run-off rule.

Green-Beckham’s appeal will center around the fact that he was never charged in the incident that ultimately got him kicked off Missouri’s football team, sources said. The receiver was alleged to have broken into an apartment and shoved a woman down stairs.

Green-Beckham caught 87 passes for 1,278 yards and 17 touchdowns in two seasons at Missouri. In the Tigers’ SEC Championship Game loss last December to Auburn, he recorded six catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

If Green-Beckham does become eligible this season, it would be a major boost to an inexperienced OU wide receiver group. Junior Sterling Shepard is the only returning wideout with any significant experience at this level.

Damain Harris releases his top 5 today. Even if Michigan is in it I still see him ending up at OSU. I think Weber is going to be the guy for Michigan.

Auburn starting LG Alex Kozan injured his back while at home this offseason. He had back surgery and will miss the entire season.
