Will Pitching Sink the Diamondbacks in October?

Major League Baseball’s surprise team may run out of luck in the playoffs. After finishing dead last in the NL West last season, the Diamondbacks currently lead the division by seven games, and look poised to enter the postseason. While their hitting and fielding have both been solid this season, the pitching has been the real reason for the Diamondbacks’ turnaround. Led by one of the worst bullpen performances we’ve seen in recent years, the Diamondbacks finished last in pitching WAR in 2010. This season, the Diamondbacks have improved to roughly league average due to breakout performances by Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson. Still, those performances may not be enough to lead the Diamondbacks to victory in October.
A quick look at the FanGraphs team pitching leader board reveals the obvious. Of the eight projected playoff teams — the current division leaders, plus the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox — the Diamondbacks currently rate eighth in pitching WAR, dead last among playoff teams. When you break it down into starters vs relievers, the Diamondbacks don’t fare all that well either. Big start for Ervin Santana tonight, seeing as Texas is up 8-0 against Tampa.
We need to keep it at 2, i'm tired of seeing it go down to 3. Even if there are 15+ games left in the season.
I'll be satisfied having the division come down to the final 3 games in Anaheim, but I'd much rather have us up 2.5.

Big start for Ervin Santana tonight, seeing as Texas is up 8-0 against Tampa.
We need to keep it at 2, i'm tired of seeing it go down to 3. Even if there are 15+ games left in the season.

Strasburg was excellent, it's rather amazing how easy he made it look. You're not supposed to be able to do that against a major league ball club after 12 months of absence. He did pitch to contact a bit in terms of a higher frequency of two seamers, but still showed the best stuff in the majors.

Strasburg was excellent, it's rather amazing how easy he made it look. You're not supposed to be able to do that against a major league ball club after 12 months of absence. He did pitch to contact a bit in terms of a higher frequency of two seamers, but still showed the best stuff in the majors.

How can Verlander be denied for AL MVP?
Nats making a bad move pitching Strasburg IMO. In contrast, Marlins are wise to shut down Josh Johnson. They said his injury might have been caused by bad posture.
Pro, I didn't really have a concrete answer for your Fielder/Braun question. It's hard to differentiate and almost a matter of preference much like the Red Sox candidates a few weeks back (Gonzo, Pedroia, Ellsbury).
