wasn't a huge fan of 'god's son', but love 'get down'

also 'hero' is in heavy rotation at the gym or when I'm running

You must love the garbage that's coming out nowadays. Lyrics are trash but the beat "goes hard son"

An album is a combination of both. A classic IMO has both great lyrics and production. Nas production holds him back in a lot of cases.

The fact that the cats coming out of Queensbridge in that era didn't need the production that others needed to produce timeless classics goes to show how talented they were.

Nas with only 1 classic?

this just proves the point that he clearly has more than 1 classic

so what you sayin' collector?

Stillmatic isn't on the same level as Illmatic. Not even close. His Jay Z diss was a bunch of name calling. Jays diss was real facts.

Children name call. Adults speak facts.

Well since All Eyez on Me & Illmatic got taken..
I'll go with another 90s classic.

The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die

This album personified the grit of New York in the 90s.
It's a classic in every sense of the word and a personal favorite of mine.

The lyrical onslaught that BIG brought along with the production.

On the the GOAT albums of all time in any genre.
From start to finish, this **** is JOHN BLAZE.
Can't even post a track, cause every song is flames.
great pick.. it was this and 36 chambers I couldn't pass on at 6

jay z's subject matter has always been below average.

it took him 6 albums to finally talk about something meaningful.

other than bragging about himself.

Ok this is how I know you watch too much VladTV..

In '88 you was getting chased through your building
Calling my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was gave you a style for you to run with
Smiling in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearing Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars J****, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase

that's all facts dude.

takeover was better then ether. I agree. Never was a fan of ether. Stillmatic still a dope album.

Far as subject matter debate goes. Ehh if you make good music You make good music. All clipse did was talk about dope but they did it great.

growing up I was the biggest Jay Stan.. Can't really listen to him much anymore. Definition of a sellout and stopped making good music after the black album for me. Adam Sandler of hip hop.
Even went to go see him at the Hollywood Bowl.

Noawadays I don't think I have any of one of his songs on my phone other then feeling it.

I don't find myself listening to much newer Jay last two albums I didn't really rock with, but pretty much everything other album I rock with. Almost got me to get Tidal

They used to say that every thread on this site either morphed in a race thread or a Jay vs. Nas thread.

I guess this thread is no exception
