Can NT have a LOCKOUT like the NFL and NBA VOL. REVOLUTION

Say what you like but OP makes some decent points.

In that JRose thread, Method Man alluded that he cant be responsible for what JRose did outside of the confines of NT regarding all the racist remarks he made on other forums (understandable). Yet I clearly remember when dudes were on that "Operation JJB takeover" and were being held responsible for their actions by getting banned from NT (not understandable).

OP also makes a good point about not being able to mention !%%!%%%@. I understand the rules and not being able to mention porn sites or whatever...but dudes were serving suspensions for mentioning HT? I cant even fathom the logic that was used to justify this other than "if you dont like it you can leave."

We should just leave that money issue alone. Meth is well within his right to keep whatever money is made off this site if he chooses to. Even if he is pocketing everything at least he had the decency to make us all believe he donates it. (FTR, I do believe all of the proceeds go to charity)


In before:

- We volunteer our free time for you ungrateful kids
- Theres many other places on the internet where you guys can curse and post your recycled humor
- Internet is not that serious
- Generic mod response anytime somebody expresses their OPINION
- If you dont like it you can leave (lol at the revenue this site would lose if we all actually decided to do that)

There is still a lot of poor posters in that forum so I don't know if that has helped. Evillore himself would have been banned a long time ago if he wasnt the owner.

For disclosure, this guy's been banned probably a dozen times.  He's spammed the board with self-promotional garbage, attacked other users, and posted a bunch of offensive material on the site over the years, yet, for some reason, he thinks he's an invaluable contributor to the community.  I'll leave that for you to decide.  

Seriously, guy?  You're planning to assemble a troll union and then stage a walkout?  How soon can you start? 

You say things like "open the books," but what do you think that even means? If I show you a spreadsheet containing our ad revenues for the past year, you'll just say we doctored it.

At the end of the day, you have to take our word for it - but we PRODUCE what we say we produce. We give SUBSTANTIALLY to charity.  Tell me, does your favorite message board do that?

99 times out of 100, they will take your traffic and convert it into profit.  They'll line their own pockets with the ad revenue you help generate and you won't utter so much as a peep in objection.  

It amazes me that you have the gall to sit here and say "why aren't you doing MORE" when you could be asking our competitors "why aren't you doing ANYTHING?"

We've spent our community's money in recent years to build a school in Kenya, a library in Nepal, and on disaster relief for the people of Japan and Haiti.   What has your favorite sneaker community spent its ad revenue on?  Camaro payments and Rogaine? 

I've considered the possibility of housing NT's operations within a registered B-Corp, which has social goals written into its charter, but at the end of the day all that really means is that we'd have to pay some third party auditor to evaluate our ability to achieve our own self-established goals. To me, that's wasteful.

To reiterate an ubiquitous Internet adage, haters are gonna hate. Even if I pay $500+ per year for independent auditing, people will still say "oh they cooked the books" or something equally stupid.  I'd rather put that money to work helping those in need.

That's a voluntary commitment.  We do it whether you know about it or not.  We do it whether you approve of it or not.  We do it because we think it's the right thing to do. 

If you're gonna complain about how we spend our community's money, first you'd better go complain to Nike about how they spend the money you pay for shoes (because you totally make that company great), how tv networks spend the money they make on ads (because without viewers like you those shows go off the air), or how any other sneaker website spends the money they generate from their traffic.  

You don't need to see the books to know that we're raising tens of thousands of dollars for charity.  You just need to open your eyes.

Even though I agree with Meth on the money issue I still don't understand why something like HT would be banned from discussion. A very minor part of this board's members even know about the site, let alone ever posted on it (myself included).

So what I believe you're basically saying is that HT type of board kept by these type of users is somehow dangerous to the NT society, but you also claim that 2o6 and some others aren't "invaluable contributors to the community". If the board would be moderated and visited by people who have very few posts and very little impact on NT would you still ban it from discussion? I don't personally believe so.

I love that this is the best response you could come up with.
You know, just because you have to essentially take our word for the fact that we currently donate a full 100% of our ad revenue beyond the costs of hosting does NOT mean that it's impossible to verify our many donations.  

That's a very simple matter.  We've posted checks.  We've posted thank you letters.  We've posted pictures of the schools.  Depending on their policies, you could probably contact some of these charities yourself to confirm the donations.  That information could also be verified by the hosting companies who've issued the checks on our behalf over the years.  You're not going to bother, though, because whereas we have no reason to bluff for attention that's pretty much all you've proven interested in doing on our forums. 

Go hide out in the music forum and post another embarrassing video, "Eddo."  You're not built for this.

The funny thing about contrarians is that they're every bit the slaves that conformists are.  The only difference is, I just have to say "left" when I want you to go right.  

Do you have any evidence to support the belief that we've lied to our users about our donations?  Independent thinkers tend to base their beliefs on fact.  If you don't have that, you're just spouting nonsense for the sake of being "an individual."

For the same reason we prohibit people from discussing porn sites or sites that facilitate software piracy... both of which went on there.
If we don't want people posting porn here, why are we going to let them post links to or discuss places where porn is displayed?  It's common sense.

JRose was ultimately held responsible for his actions.  The point was, it was difficult to prove that all of these off-site allegations were accurate.  Over the years, JRose and I had a number of conversations in which I expressed the view that NikeTalk staff members are expected to represent the community.  It's not necessarily your employer's business what you do with your free time (and he was a volunteer), but when it starts to affect the community then it does become our business.  Our response reflects that. 
The JJB thing is similar in that people attempted to use NT as a staging ground to plan "attacks" on other forums and that's unacceptable.  You're not 8 years old.  You aren't going to "raid" other sites while waving around the NikeTalk banner.  That behavior is a horrible embarrassment to the community and we're not going to tolerate it.
