DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

Watched the 9 am showing. Paid only $6.19. I have to say it was worth my ticket price. Didn't care for the first 3/4 of the movie but definitely enjoyed the last quarter. Will list my likes and dislikes later. I will say I would've liked better editing and the writing was sloppy / bad.

After the first viewing I thought it was an ok movie with some issues. After the second viewing I think this is a very good film. I didn't feel the pacing issues that I felt the first time. The dream sequence and the intro of the league worked better as well. It still has some issues but it's good. It's amazing the little things I missed the first go round because I was being asked questions during the film

I do think they showed too much in the trailers/advertising which might have lost the wow factor for some things.

In a world where the Transformers movies made as much money as they did Batman V Superman is going to be fine.

You might be right, but that's not necessarily a good thing. If a subpar movie still makes money how will the studio be motivated to change/improve.

I want Snyder out of there man.

If movie still makes bank, there's no reason to kick him out

The scenes with the batmobile reminded me of transormers.

That's another gripe I had with the film. That Batmobile chase scene just looked a little amateur-hour to me. I didn't get any tension and the Batmobile looked flimsy in action.

I agree 100%, but we live in a world where people are constantly looking for spoilers. They could of done stuff like black the screen out when Doomsday growls and just let us speculate on who it was.

LOL............that poll

See Bruce, Martha would be proud

I think DC is for the more mature audience compared to marvels funny action story line. dC starting with the dark knight series has darker side for each of the character.just my opinion

Dark and brooding does not mean more mature though.

It is no doubt darker when it comes to the movies. That's pretty much a fact. More mature? Questionable. If it's good is where the opinions come in.

Marvel found that balance and established a whole darker more mature sub section with it's netflix series after changing up the tone with The Winter Soldier and AOU (while arguably not as good is different in tone from Avengers). Already 3 seasons in and flourishing. They basically just got done with DD vs. Punisher: Dawn of Vengeance.

I need this kind of deal when it's movies I'm not at all hyped for

For a movie that was supposed to be more 'mature' it didn't attempt much to talk up to adults. There wasn't one intelligent, philosophical conversation between Bats and Supes. They spent most of the movie dealing with their own angst and psyche and then quickly escalated to punching their second meeting. There are cartoons that are less patronizing to the audience.

I think you literally see Cap and IM debate more philosophy in their trailers than Bats and Supes do in their whole movie.

lex was like the riddler or a tim burton character. His plan at the end wasn't bad though. superman looked so beta though when lex dropped the pics on the ground and superman fell on his knees to grab them. Looked like pics of Diane Lane in a torture porn / snuff film. I would've ripped his arm off or taken an eyeball Kill Bill style.

Also never mind the fact that Superman straight up doesn't work in a super realistic morally relativistic world. Superman can't live in a moral grey area because

under that logic Lex Luthor is the hero of the story.

We the audience have to absolute certainty in Superman innate goodness other wise Lex Luthor is the hero of the story, and we should be rooting for him to kill superman.

He carries around jars of grandma's pee and blows up his Asian assistant. Can never root for that guy.

but given the potential destruction superman has and can cause those deaths become justified, it the Zod situation all over again.

except Lex is Superman and Superman is Zod.

Think about it this way

If Lex comes in half way through Man of Steel in kills Superman is that not a heroic action in this super realistic world?

Movies with Superman will just never be good. He's too overpowered and his character is so static and bland.  It was good in the 50s.

They tried to change that up with Batman vs Superman by riding off the success of Batman movies and aiming for that dark noir-y type film.  But I don't always wanna go into a damn Superhero movie and see a bunch of dudes I used to watch as cartoons when I was 5 being all dark and depressing all the time.  They're supposed to be an escape from real life, not a badly written film noir with weird jumpy scenes and plot holes.  DC needs to learn how to balance serious and entertaining better.

Superman is static and bland when poorly written I can point you to any really good superman stories that any adult can enjoy.

I use to wonder why Marvel never ran with a hero with Lex's motives cuz minus some evil plans and douchery Lex could easily be the hero in Marvel's moral gray superhero area whether back in the 60s and even more so now

I remember past threads and discussions overall about the big 2 thematically when it comes to this and I recall a friend who is a big fan telling me it's like Marvel agreed to paint their heroes in the light of the DC paramours who embody goodness (to an extent) while DC has taken the complete opposite with Marvel's morally gray socially conscious/90s take to their movies  Problem is one side is bungling it.

There are similar situations in Marvel, comic Civil War is an example of this, in a super realistic world we should side with the government, its complement reasonable that super powered individuals should be monitored and registed.

but in Marvels comic book verse we know that

a) super heroes are good

b) The Marvel US Goverment is essentially evil.

they have assisted in the genocide of mutants, they have been taken over by hydra, aliens, committed countless human rights violations. ect ect

so we side with cap.
