I don't ever depend on the revive when I run a Warlock or have someone else in the group that is one but **** does happen and that revive has pulled off miracles at times. We use it more for creating orbs during certain encounters than actually using it as a crutch.
It shoots like a fatebringer in terms of feel, sound, and fire rate. I've been dubbed officially as the "shank killer" during nightfalls now!

Purifier? They aren't as good as you think. If someone stands over you with a shotgun, they'll be blind but they'll still kill you. Most good fireteams will have 1 guy with a shotgun specifically for the reason.

Nightfall and PoE 34/35 are the 2 times that you should required to run Revive with your Warlock, unless there is another Warlock to run it instead or agreed upon by the other 2 guys. Not about being dependent on anything, but that perk is there for PvE purposes more than anything, so it should be used.
I always have my revive as a back up just in case but I always try to play like I don't have one.
Just because I CAN doesn't mean I should be reckless and HAVE to.
I often finish missions/strikes without ever using it. Just use it at the end when celebrating

Believe me, I know what you mean though. I am sure Biggie does too. We both played healers in high-end WoW raiding guilds. Talk about nothing but standing in the back and healing all day long in everything :x
I made alternate Rogues and Warriors for the pure purpose of not having to worry about healing anyone else and just doing damage to others

Oh myself, Zero and Biggie barely die in them either, but the one time every other month or so, out of our 3 runs each week, when we do need to actually use it, we are glad we have it.
