I own a 08 civic coupe 3 things I wanna share:
1) A coupe is good if your on your own with no family and not too many friends.. believe me is a hassle at times but I love it.

2) I have a DX model, wish I had the EX atleast but I couldnt afford it at the time, believe me that V-Tec and sunroof makes a difference

3) VERY VERY EASY AND CHEAP TO FIX AND MAINTAIN.

Besides that I love mine.

+ 1 on manual transmission. Only issues I've heard are with the auto transmissions if I recall correctly. But as long as the car had it's regular maintainence you should be straight.

I can't remember if the 97s have a timing belt or a timing chain, hopefully it's the chain so you won't have to keep paying to change the timing belt or worry if it was changed before.
