If You Are Looking for/Interested In Working With The Federal Government...Come In. Positions Availa

It was like that at Fort Sill too, super relaxed, nobody ever checked up on anybody about anything as long as we were getting our work done.

This place I don't even get it, we're all the same level so it's not even like it's a try to get someone else's spot thing. But since I just started I was spending some time with the Site manager getting my paperwork in order, showing me around, etc. Kats are literally coming in to tell him soandso was 5 minutes late, Johnny smokes when he goes to the bathroom, Omar is just telling people BS to get them off the phone and get his #s up. It was sickening how much snitching over nothing went on. And their overemplasis on metrics from the top down plus them being the same way I'm sure fosters that. There's a job fair Wednesday, guarantee I can get any of a few of these jobs I just dont know if they want to lowball me.

Ft. Sill, I was going to Seabee school at Shepard AFB and drove through once back in 03'. Remember the only people I saw were two guys raking rocks.

@OP

How is the hiring process during COVID

Same as ever, just virtual.

I played in a basketball tournament at Sheppard AFB once. Not a big fan of Wichita Falls although when I was in HS we used to road trip to there. I don't know where you only saw 2 people, Fort Sill or lawton Oklahoma, either way both areas are super populous so IDK. Lawton has turned into kind of a ****hole though, people move to periphery town like Cache, Elgin (I have a house there), Medicine Park, or the extreme East or SouthWest sides.

Lol at me complaining about that job. **** atually got worse from there. But to put literal finality to it, Apex fired us without even telling us. They just decided to pull out of the contract, and they'd let us find out ourselves by coming to work that Monday and the site lead (who was from a different company but same workplace) would tell us or we'd know when our CACs got disabled and post security didnt let us on base. Dudes literally came to work monday to be asked wtf are you ehre for, and escorted back out.

And most of them were contract travel workers, so that's the catalyst that would have them call their rep like whats going on I came to work and they said I dont work here anymore and took my CAC, then Apex would tell them check out of your hotel and turn in your car rental, you fly home tomorrow at 8. And I've heard similar stories from Apex people who worked at/with Dell too and they had a class action suit for underpaying SCA employees and had to back pay 100s of 1000s of dollars.

but hiring is the same to the guy who asked above. If you're lucky, your interview which just be a minimal hit of your resume matching to keywords then they'll ask your clearance status and what IAT-1 certs you have, and you can be hired. Some are getting extra with Zoom conference calls and this HireVue one way interview thing, but Gov hiring is keywords, clearances, and minimal quals.

Any feds can correct if I am wrong...seen an increase in Direct-Hire positions (removes all preference considerations, i.e. veterans, disability); however, many are term-limited (one-year appointment w/ possibility of one-year extension).

I regret turning down a job as Fed Probation Officer few years back :smh:

Probably would have been a difficult gig, but I enjoy helping people and building them up when they're in a tough spot.

not a fed, am contractor...onboarding has been all virtual, and has not stopped (although I can only speak of associates that were already feds and made lateral moves, cannot speak for the hiring of new feds).

the business unit I support has had five departures in the last year and only replaced the Director level (Acting in title), I doubt they replace the 15, 14, and two 13s that left, even worse is they will likely not utilize contractors to perform similar duties.

I saw two guys in PT Gear raking rocks. Shepard AFB was hands down the the best base I been to. At the time it was where the Air Force sent all their airmen that were going into anything medical. So the base was all women. The ratio of men to women was 1 to 5. I had been in the Military 4 years and man it was a blast being around those fresh outta boot camp.

Man it is borderline impossible to get a good GS without prior service.

Its the opposite out here. October marks new fiscal yr for the Gov so turns of hirings on usajobs but I cant even apply to most of them.

That part. Getting a good GS is so hard man. Most people i know had prior service or started off in other sections like the VA or NAF then switched over to the GS side

federal level,had to fill out a sf-86

SF86 = Security clearance.

Poly could be full scope OR counterintelligence (not both).

Hopefully the latter.

My advice is don't lie...because you don't have to remember the truth.

They'll ask you the same question 5 different ways.

They basically are going to use your answers against you and won't ask any questions to which they don't already know the answer...especially if you lie.

It's no joke in there!

They are going to validate and verify ALL of your answers in the SF86...especially if you have foreign contacts or questionable credit and you'll have to account for any discrepancies during your interview with the investigator.

For the poly - just relax as much as you can...they adjust the baseline to account for nervousness.

Good luck!!!

It really aint all that...unless you're lying.

They do this all day - every day. Aint no trick they haven't seen already.

They can even tell if you squeeze your butt cheeks together when you answer a question LOL!!!

Oh and answer ONLY the questions asked. Don't elaborate or go into story telling mode.

Simple short answers.

Yes or No will do.

Also try to remember to use the same name for people , ie to yoy
Someone may be Bobby and Robert or bob , you
May unconsciously switch back and forth for everyone’s convenience just say bob every time

applied to the CDC for a Public Health Advisor, my qualifications as a playground consultant fit perfectly. It's been 5 months and application is still in process

my current contract is up for re-compete at the end of the month, trying to anticipate who the other firms are that will likely bid

Does anyone have knowledge of contracts and salary for contractors?

I know what they're billing the government through the grapevine. So should I expect about 60% of that as a baseline? What's the high end of what I should negotiate?

even with FY21 underway, seems like new contracts and requisitions (even ones based on anticipatory awards) are not being posted as much. assumptions are 1) upcoming election; and 2) current CR (runs out 12/18, i think?).

I'm guessing with potential changes to departmental strategies, priorities, and personnel, agencies are in a holding pattern with spend.

this is my first presidential election as a contractor and I'm probably stating the obvious but ruminating on stuff :nerd:
