Rick Rubin has described Angus and Julia Stone’s forthcoming album as “extraordinary”.

The legendary record producer worked on the pair’s self-titled new album which is due for release on August 1. In a press release announcing the record, Rubin sung the siblings’ praises. “Angus and Julia are truly unique musicians. They are authentic and pure people who do things from the heart. I’ve never worked with anyone like them before.” Big words from a man who counts the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z and Eminem among his production credits.

The album was recorded at Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu throughout late 2013 and has been described as “pure Angus and Julia”. It apparently “takes the inherent strengths of the duo and adds news colours – blended harmonies, a new depth and strength to their rhythm section and more experimental guitar textures”.

The forthcoming record will be Angus and Julia Stone’s first together since 2010’s Down The Way, which went four times platinum and took home the ARIA for Album Of The Year, Best Adult Alternative Album, Best Cover Art and Producer of The Year. It also produced the smash hit ‘Big Jet Plane’ which came in at #1 on the Hottest 100. Following its release the siblings took some time out from recording as a duo to pursue solo efforts – Angus released his solo debut Broken Brights  in 2011 while Julia managed two records, 2010’s The Memory Machine  and 2012’s By The Horns.

Angus and Julia Stone  is due out August 1 with the first single expected to land in May.
