What alternatives do you suggest?
Nearly everyone goes to school for the first part of their life, once you're on your own you need to work in order to support yourself and not starve. Then you find someone to marry and start a family with, and now you have to support even more people. Then you retire and die.
While you may not like how people seem to go through the motions of life and don't take advantage, the basic set up of life is hard to avoid.
