JAMES BOND movie thread: RIP Sir Sean Connery - NO TIME TO DIE 10/08/21

Not sure how people can say this is the worst bond films. Have you seen some of the Brosnan ones?

If you think Spectre is the worst James Bond film you've clearly never seen Die Another Day. **** was trash from start to finish :smh: Was more than happy that Brosnan chose to end things there.

Few corny parts but overall I thought the movie was good.

It was predictable but arent they all? lol

I think the most annoying part was Bond escaping the building and Waltz character just hanging around watching

Casino Royale > Skyfall > Spectre > Solace

Casino probably my favorite Bond film ever.

Collectively the four above are probably my favorite run in the series.

Daniel Craig :pimp:

I ended up watching in on Saturday and overall, I felt it was an enjoyable movie.  Had a different feel to it vs. Skyfall.  Nothing Oscar worthy but it was a good mix of action, things we expect from Bond Movies, and slight humor.  Reading through some of comments in this thread though, I do agree that Waltz could have been utilized in a better sense.  He should have been more sinister and evil, especially since he was the mastermind behind everything.  Maybe it's due to his lack of screen time in the movie.

Overall, I would still recommend watching it, especially if you're fan of Bond.

I've enjoyed Craig's run as Bond.

My initial complaints were "I'm the author of all your pain" but we don't really get much in the way of how... other than all the previous bad guys were involved in Spectre. That reveal kind of weakens the previous villains but that's okay if Blofeld is even bigger and badder... but he really wasn't. It was cool that they tried to tie the films together.. but how did they really? They just said those guys were involved with Spectre and that's it. If we had some details, some backstory, something other than Blofeld just taking credit, then I would have loved it more. Waltz is an awesome actor.. but I wish they brought in Tarantino to write his dialogue, because that's what was missing. I appreciated the classic Bond villain and all that goes with it.. but Bond in Casino Royale and Skyfall felt in danger and there was far more tension built up throughout.

In this one, the final action sequence didn't blow me away and I really didn't care for Bond shooting down a helicopter with his Walther. I get that far more ridiculous things happened in Bond movies, but I'm talking about this Bond movie. We already saw Blofeld go up in flames from a watch bomb, his lair get destroyed, and then his helicopter gets shot down.. it just felt anticlimatic and I'd rather he just fly off or they found another way to get to their ending. I saw the ending they wanted, Bond standing over him and being forced to make a choice between MI6 and Madeline, but the road to get there could have been done better. I know people called Skyfall's ending Home Alone with Bond, but that was a lot more exciting and clever to me. That was subverting your expectations.. big, bad James Bond is reduced to a couple of shotguns and cleverness, I loved that.

And you don't get to write off complaints just because it's a Bond movie.. we might have all seen C working for Spectre coming a mile away, but you can still try a little to disguise it and try to make it a surprise. Like how in Skyfall, you're meant to originally dislike Mallory but he ends up stepping up and helping them in the shootout. If they could have made C less obviously evil and doublefaced, I would have appreciated it

The pacing was also a bit off. I was never bored, but the movie felt every minute of it's runtime, it's a long movie.

Things I did like.. the action was pretty great. The opening sequence was awesome, the nods to classic Bond throughout, all the set pieces were entertaining (except the finale wasn't my favorite). Hinx was awesome and I loved how physically dominant he was and the fight choreography highlighted that. Madeline was a great Bond girl, and the MI6 group was a lot of fun this go-around.

I liked the references to the campy side and history of Bond with the white cat, the exploding watch, the spy car not having ammo loaded or playing music instead, the "maybe later" at Blofeld's compound, etc.

It felt like this was as campy/silly of a Bond that Craig and Mendes could muster, but they didn't go all out into it. So they had the little subtle nods to that side, had the huge action sequences, of course, but lacked what we liked about Casino Royale and Skyfall. The writing wasn't sharp enough, the pacing not quite tight enough, Craig was just a little bland this go-around. It was still worth a watch, laughed and went wide-eyed at the spectacle of the action sequences, and I'll likely enjoy it when I rewatch it.. but it wasn't great.

Waltz as Blofeld, the followup to Skyfall, I was hoping it was going to really deliver and knock it out of the park... and it fell short. Still good, still a ton of fun and definitely worth seeing, but falls short of what it should have been.

Question for everyone: Who's been your favorite Bond villain from the Daniel Craig Era? Overall mine has to be Le Chiffre, but Silva's opening scene from Skyfall was masterful work. Think I also enjoyed his background and motivation more than anyone else's.

Opening great
attending spectre meeting great
Snow scenes fine
Train scenes great
Tangiers scenes were bad
Ending back in UK was fine

Overall i liked it but the stepbrother hate storyline was terrible. That killed it for me a bit. A bad guy in it for the money and world domination would have been fine for me.

Im in the minority here but I really liked Quantum of Solace. I liked the pace and story too.

Skyfall and Quantum of Solace are probably my two favorite.

just watched quantum for the first time, actually pretty good

the main villain's arc was way better than what waltz had in spectre, and the way it tied into the first movie was so much better than the lazy "haha i caused everything, it was me all along"

Agree completely.

Thought the action scenes were great though, they built anticipation well.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I understand why other folks wouldn't. It's equivalent to TDKR for me.

Finally saw this. Average. Worst of the Daniel Craig series.Waste of the great Mr. Waltz.

And this Bond going rogue storyline got played out. They need to go back to Bond being Bond

Shouldve kept recent pattern going with a different director instead of bringing Mendes back. Movie was all over the place. :smh:

Watched it yesterday, I thought it was pretty good. I was entertained but like others have said there were definitely some weak story / plot points.

Also the goddess, Monica Bellucci should've been in it more and showed more skin. :wow:

The connection between Bond and cristoph waltz's character was kinda dumb and lazy writing. They showed James looking at his guardianship document and that pic in the beginning of the movie and I was wondering what it was for and was let down. Them connecting the villains from the previous films to him were weak connections.

Watching Casino Royale last week and the train car scene when he first meets Vesper, she analyzes him and guesses he went to a private school but he came from a family that had less money than the other kids and he felt insecure about it. Watching Skyfall and seeing how big and nice it used to be had me thinking his family had a nice income so she was wrong about that.

Saw Spectre today. Won't call myself a huge Bond-series fan, so I didn't have many expectations going in. But I enjoyed it a lot. Fun movie, could have used more Waltz tho, and more of a sinister feel from him. Didn't expect Batista to have that large a roll, didn't even know he was in the movie until the opening credits  .

Enjoyed it more than Skyfall IMO.

Didn't like Skyfall and didn't like Spectre. Casino Royale was the standard, but the quality has been dropping film after film. Can't wait for a new actor and creative team to board the property.

Writing's On The Wall is the best Bond song of all time.

Yeah, the series definitely needs a fresh start. I don't think linking all 4 movies was a good idea even thought I loved the image and references to my bae, Vesper. :smokin

Should've just finished the story in skyfall and have this recent movie be a new adventure.

Also was M, an 00 agent as well? He said some code to that cop on the bridge to pass through and I thought I heard him say 006.
