JAMES BOND movie thread: RIP Sir Sean Connery - NO TIME TO DIE 10/08/21

Craig is IM0 the best Bond truest to the novel. Just a bit older. He didn’t look like Bond’s we were used to which is still a talking point.

I like that Craig while a traditional Bond player was also hopeless romantic deep down. The other Bond’s never showed any real emotional or weak side outside of revenge.

I liked roger moore 🤷‍♂️

Me too. He was my Bond growing up - and it worked in that era.

I’ve enjoyed Craig - and it made sense. There’s definitely scope for something interesting - not quite just a blunt instrument but British (and not English makes sense) with inner demons but able to play the Monaco role etc too.

I read about how people were mad they cast someone blonde.

Which is why I find it funny that sam worthington was one of the final choices last time. An Aussie 007 would've made brits go crazy.

craig got a lot of initial hate

from being blonde and ugly to having no sex appeal, too short, people were even complaining he couldnt drive stick and wearing a life vest on a boat

I was definitely one of those people who hated craig at first.
It was only because i believe he was coming off of Road to perdition and he was so good in that film
but his character was such a piece of *****.
When he got Bond it was like they were rewarding that character in a way.

He's totally my favorite bond all time now

Will be interesting to see what direction the next set of films goes in.

Casino Royale really set the bar high for a first film

It’s gonna be a GEn Z version. He’s gonna want PTO and a proper work life balance as Bond

Aaron Taylor Johnson took his wifes last name.

He gonna make the Bond Girls use a consent app before smashing.

His wife is like 80 years old in real life.

FINALLY
Caught No Time to Die.

It's definitely in the mixed bag category for me.
Things I liked
-I loved Safins philosophy as well as Hercales itself, such a dope bond type of threat.
-I thought Ana de Armas OWNED her scenes, she took over the movie to me for a bit.
Would've been dope if they didn't even announce her in the film, totally felt like an uncredited cameo, she was definitely in and out
- Q scenes def delivered, Howling when was looking for the gun drawer and he opened the one with that tea set:lol:. If there's one thing I appreciate its that this iteration of Q was more
"in the field" so to speak. I also liked that his gadgets throughout this series have been hit or miss or he actually doesn't know how powerful they are. I really hope that the actor stays on for more films, he's great at making it his own thing while at the same time paying homage to Desmonds Llewyns Q.
-That one shot in the stairwell was insane, I kept waiting for it to be over but it just kept going.
Beautifully shot and to me a definitive scene(one of many in the series)
for Craig's legacy as Bond
Easily the highlight of the film for me.

Things I didn't like
- I feel like Bond is an official 00 agent like half these films, and on the run uncovering the sins of MI:6 in the other half, while being "off the books", it gets tiring.
I'm so salty that they just didn't follow the Mission to Mission format.
- I literally didn't care for Madeline or that little girl, We really got a backstory on her though and I adore Lea Seydoux
- Safin and Bond should've met earlier, I feel like they only met once. Usually there's a showdown mid film, villain gets away and that sets up the final faceoff at said villains hideout.
It would've been nice to see Safin use his "power" w/ Bond thinking he got him.
-Blofield
- Other 007, The jokes about who the real one is got old fast.
Character is dope though
and I adore Lashana Lynch

I probably would've bought the ending had Craig had waaaaay more movies as Bond.
It's like they covered his entire career as 00, but we got the cliffnotes,
some were dope and some weren't. At least the character was pretty consistent

Thank goodness for Casino Royale
and while I know it gets a ton of flack, my personal favorite Skyfall

Safin was a weak villain. Too much whining.

Casino Royale was great because of the villain. Le Chiffre was the most credible villain during the Craig era. All these other villains were goofy

out of Craigs run, my rankings

Casino Royale
Skyfall
No Time To Die
Spectre
Quantum Of Solace

and i think the viallins co-incide with that ranking too, maybe switch Blofield and Safin but it can just be a tie

and its still crazy to me that as good/great casino royale was, its director didnt go anywhere, 5 years later i think he directed Green Lantern and then never to be heard of again (?)

We watched Never say never again for the first time at the weekend - I can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before.

Connery was great as a sort of washed up jaded Bond and it was a really interesting concept - but just didn’t quite do it and it hasn’t aged well.

I like that idea though - Bond doesn’t always have to be a young guy and it would make an interesting modern movie if done well.

Casino Royale is the only Craig Bond I've watched more than once and it is very likely to stay that way

For me….
Quantum Of Solace
Skyfall
No Time To Die
Casino Royale
Spectre

I just felt like Quantum immediately engaged me with the Aston Racing, we find out about the secret organization and how well connected they are and Bond just wanted revenge. Fields was banging as a bond girl. It also was relatively short in run length. The drink scene on the plane is legendary. At the end he doesn’t kill the guy who set up Vesper and turned him in.

Loved the plot twist on them thinking they wanted oil but it was water they were after. Honestly similar to the real world

Never understood the beating that movie gets.

Quantum was better on my recent rewatch than I remember, but it's easily the 4th on my list

Skyfall
Casino Royale
No time to die
Quantum
Spectre

good start but it was all downhill from there and it didnt help that it followed CR based on one of, if not the, best Bond books ever written

i believe ti was also a victim of the writers strike and the script was unfinished when they started shooting hence the story felt disjointed and if you really read about the issues that plagued that film, the producers themselves will tell you its not great
