What's disrespectful is the amount of things I've seen drawn on here for FREE over the years, for nothing more than lulz and some reps.
But let somebody ask a favor of these sneakerheads, and all of a sudden these screen names transform into Graphic Designers, and Nike becomes the gold standard for 'negotiations' that include stock options.
Sure enough, she brought some strawberry Smirnoff vanilla cupcakes this morning. I should have asked her how much she's paying, and quoted how much Jelly Belly and Taco Bell are paying their Taste Testers these days.
Half of you reading this are chilling at an office job, anyways, getting paid to be on FB and NT, and whipping something together for a quick $50 could be done during your lunch break.
But nah, you want stock options and a retainer... from a lemonade stand.
Dudes, it's not that serious. You either want to help and make a quick 50 bucks or you don't.
Why wouldn't anyone with skills want a quick 50 bucks for 30 minutes of light work?
She's not a Forbes top 100 corporation...
She's just a lady who wants to
Make cupcakes and make some side
Money.
WHO DO YOU THINK SHES GOING TO BE, THE BILL GATES OF CUPCAKES?
What the hell you scared of? That Skas friend will turn into the next Nike of the baking industry? From her kitchen? With her hobby that she has no interest in turning into a big company?
I mean Jesus. Get off your high horses, I have an Art degree so I'm well aware of what an artist deserves for their hard work, but I'm also aware of the climate. People can get 50 dollar logos ALL OVER Instagram dudes.
The amount of talented people willing to make quick cash is endless over social media.
My buddy had an artist make him a logo for his podcast for 25 bucks!! 25!! The guy was juiced. Quick money for 20 minutes of work. My buddy didn't have high standards and he's not trying to turn into the next NPR RADIO. It's just side work for him for some side source of income. He has a career and isn't leaving it because of his little podcast hobby.
25 buck work is being done all over Instagram, yet nt'ers acting like 50 bucks isn't enough for an hour of work on a cupcake design
CMON MAN.
NT is supposed to be a community, we're always helping each other out when were in need. He's offering you 50 when he could just asked for a free favor.
Either do it and help a lady out from the goodness of your heart or get out. It's that simple.
Ska,
You're really playing yourself in this thread with your 'justifications'.
x2I've got a good idea for one. I may sketch something out. That is a rather long name.
Justifications... of what? I have no agenda other than "Oh, a neat little logo, you say? Let me see if anyone on NT has some spare minutes and could use a quick $50." What exactly am I justifying? In order to justify something, shouldn't I at least feel like I need to make an excuse for what I've done? Y'all dudes the ones justifying what is essentially a favor, w/ $50 attached to deter anyone saying "Right, like someone's gonna design this girl's logo for free. Beat it, mod."Ska,

You're really playing yourself in this thread with your 'justifications'.money in 20-30 minutes while helping out someone in need & trying to do something positive
Yambs. ... ... :\
I feel sorry for you. Legit. Money & sex: all that drives so many.
You asked about my mechanic. Name's Eddie. Lives right down the street I've given him clients, 2 of which were dead broke at the time he serviced them, ONE OF WHICH WAS INTRODUCED TO EDDIE FOR SOMETHING EDDIE DID FOR FREE. My neighbor... WHO I PROMISE I HAVE NEVER MET BEFORE IN MY LIFE... couldn't get his car started for school, so I gave him and his little girl a lift on the way to taking my son to school, and when we got back, I hit Eddie up and he got my neighbor's car started. You can look at it as him doing something "for free", or you can look at it as a couple dudes (me and Eddie) just stepping in to help somebody out.
Tell me more about how everyone should be charging for their services. That's absolutely how the world works, man. Aware me.
I'm not forcing anyone into anything, though. No one is asking for your sympathy. So you can kill that noise my dude. I don't even do graphic design anymore and offered up a free idea of what it could look like just to keep the thread moving and to see what came out, so I had no interest in money and if you're offering sex, I'm good on that too.Yambs.... ...

As for your mechanic, Eddie decided to do it for free and that's good. What you're failing to see in the analogy is that it was his decision and you didn't set the price. If someone comes in here with a design you like and they do it for $50 or for free, I'm not going to knock that person or you. It's not my issue really. I was initially backing up the idea that $50 isn't that much for that kind of work, which it isn't, and saying that your attitude of why someone should be ok with $50 stinks. It's not your call what someone else should be ok with when it comes to their work. You're missing the point. Had you kept with your original attitude of "if you don't want to do it for $50, then don't and keep it moving" (paraphrasing) then I'd have nothing to say, but now you are insisting on why people should want to and using community to justify what you initially proposed as a contest.
I only stated my problem with your line of thinking and jokingly suggested that you may be doing it for a free plate of cupcakes and some yambs. Whatever the case, you do have some sort of motivation to be doing this for her and that's no one's business but yours. But don't pretend that you are acting altruistically when you made this a contest for you and her to judge the best work.
Aware you?
Come on man. I just spoke my piece and am voicing my disgust with that line of thought that says graphic designers are a "dime a dozen" or should be happy with $50 for a logo. You shouldn't take it personally.
Exactly.
Exactly.
If you don't think $50 is fair, I mean, don't participate, then.
in the very first post...
So why are people complaining about the price??
keep it pushing.
It's not your call what someone else should be ok with (It's not yours, either, though) when it comes to their work. You're missing the point. (mirror) Had you kept with your original attitude of "if you don't want to do it for $50, then don't and keep it moving" (paraphrasing) then I'd have nothing to say, but now you are insisting on why people should want to (I've insisted no such thing. Only thing I've insisted is that those interested respond, and those uninterested... don't respond. What kind of a fool do I look like forcing people hands? "MAKE SOMETHING!!!" Never that. But people crying about $50 when A) no one asked their opinion, and B) people 'design' stuff for free all the time for laughs? Yeah, I'm'a bring that up, in case people have forgotten. That is NOT brought up to say "Screw you. You made pictures for free in various threads, so MAKE SOMETHING!" No. It's brought up to remind people that other people LITERALLY have no problem drawing in their sleep and don't look for every opportunity to scratch off that big lottery ticket, so stop being their volunteer lawyer.)
I don't expect much. It's not the price, it's the attitude that's the biggest issue. I'd be more than happy to participate in this "trial" but just don't expect much is what we're saying.in the very first post...
So why are people complaining about the price??
keep it pushing.

I've had dudes send me links to free digital downloads to movies that they figured my son would like.
