people really going to give you gifts without a wedding though? Can you have a wedding shower without a wedding? We had a destination wedding and didnt want/expect gifts from anyone, but we were pretty surprised when only one person out of everyone gave us a card/cash. 
Personally, I have always given cash at destination weddings, even though not necessary.

It's happening next year for us, and our parents took it upon themselves to cover the costs. We didn't even ask. Super happy.
