HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A former math teacher at Beverly Hills Intermediate School in the Pasadena ISD has been charged by Harris County officials with five felony counts.
The charges against the former instructor come upon the heels of an investigation into allegations of improper conduct with four students; all of the students are currently high school students.
Charges were filed Monday afternoon by the Harris County district attorney’s office against 41-year-old LaShawn Simmons.
Simmons reportedly resigned from her position with the school district in lieu of termination back in January.
The five charges include one count of sexual assault of a child under 17, which is a second-degree felony. Simmons is also charged with two counts of engaging in an improper relationship between an educator and a student, also a second-degree felony.
The two other charges filed against Simmons include on-line solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography; both of those charges are third-degree felonies.
Upon completion of a two-month investigation, Pasadena ISD police sought the charges against Simmons. A parent of one of the victims became alarmed after witnessing online conversation that allegedly took place between Simmons and the underage student.
Simmons was an instructor with Beverly Hills for 14 years.
