The numbers are messed up though, obviously. But the players (I'm assuming) are brining in more than ever before through media/sponsorships/blah blah...soif they are responsible for creating more they should be paid more.

Yes my friend that is real. Championships, sold-out arenas, merchandise sold = compensation.

ya after the 96 Finals they resigned him. I remember the Knicks were also trying to sign him. Each of those last two seasons were 1 yearcontracts... After the 97 Finals, MJ was lobbying Krause for $36 mil
eek.gif
. They ended up settling at $33 mil for the 97-98 season..... Then Krause told Phil, who he already didn't like, "I don't care if it's 82-0 this year, you're
4f8354e9d901dfb4b049081e831a450698e3ed1.gif
gone."

If I remember correctly that 1 year $33 million contract was the highest 1 year contract ever at the time. I wonder if that still stands

No one will ever see that kind of money again, especially since players are looking for long term deals instead of big paydays for a few years.

Scottie Pippen (severely underpaid by the Bulls)
2002-03 - $19,727,524
Don't worry the Blazers compensated him well for all those years

It's the Bird exception. Teams could re-sign their own free agents and go over the cap in an effort to retain their talent. It's not like now whenteams can only offer a certain player a certain increase due to their years in the league. The salaries in the mid-late 90s was wild with almost norestrictions.
