ya after the 96 Finals they resigned him. I remember the Knicks were also trying to sign him. Each of those last two seasons were 1 yearcontracts... After the 97 Finals, MJ was lobbying Krause for $36 mil

It's the Bird exception. Teams could re-sign their own free agents and go over the cap in an effort to retain their talent. It's not like now whenteams can only offer a certain player a certain increase due to their years in the league. The salaries in the mid-late 90s was wild with almost norestrictions.
