I think that was Coughlin being slick and buying some time to calm the D down/vent to the refs.
He's smarter to know what you can/cannot challenge.

That's what Garret was arguing; that Coughlin should have had challenge flag taken away. Either the refs didn't care, or truly believed Coughlin was trying to challenge

Coughlin was slick with that one. I agree with Garrett, you should be penalized for fake challenging to draw the refs into dialogue.
