Nintendo had a Direct just now and some huge news was announced, here is the full video. It's Japanese since the direct was for Japan only.

Main points of the Direct

-NEW 3DS announced
Features:
C stick like the GameCube
ZR & ZL buttons added
Ability to view 3D at an angle
Faster download speeds
Upgraded CPU
Micro SD slot
NFC reader in the touch screen
Famicon colored buttons for the small model
Interchangeable face and back plates for the small model

Games were also announced. The big one for me was the Xenoblade port that I think is exclusive to the NEW 3DS since it has a better CPU.

Final Fantasy Explorers was announced which features a live battle style life Kingdom Hearts instead of a turn based.

Bravely Default for the Sequel was shown.

A new One Piece 2D fighting game was announced.

A new Atlus game was shown.

Nintendo has prepared a bumper line-up of new games and products on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS and 2DS systems for the end of 2014. The line-up includes new entries from some of the biggest series in gaming, plus new amiibo interactive figures featuring some of gaming’s most iconic characters. The first 12 amiibo interactive figures are today confirmed as being Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, with more on the way in the future.

Along with amiibo, here’s what lies in store for Nintendo fans leading up to the end of 2014: · Major Series: Nintendo has four games from two of the most well-known series launching this year: o Super Smash Bros.: The Wii U game and the first portable game in the series are getting ready for their debuts. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launches on 3rd October, with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U following winter 2014. As another offering for fans, those who register both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the games in Club Nintendo – before a set time – can claim the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS & Wii U: Premium Sound Selection, a free soundtrack CD* packed with tunes taken from and inspired by the games. Further details on the timings pertaining to this offering will follow at a later date.

Also in a separate announcement this morning, Nintendo revealed that Shulk from the Xenoblade Chronicles series will be a playable character in both games. o Pokémon: Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for Nintendo 3DS hit stores and Nintendo eShop on 28th November, and are a complete re-imagining of Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version, games which Pokémon fans first enjoyed when they launched in 2003 for Game Boy Advance. Now, players will catch, battle and trade Pokémon as they seek answers to the mystery behind Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre and their possible connection t o Mega Evolutions. With new challenges to overcome and incredibly powerful Pokémon to encounter, these games are a true evolution in the Pokémon series.

Interactive amiibo Figures: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which launches winter 2014, will be the first game with full integration of amiibo. Other games that will support amiibo include Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World, with more to come. More details on amiibo functionality and an official launch date will be revealed shortly.

Bayonetta 2: The witch is back in October in the game that features over-the-top battles with wild weapons in gorgeous locations, with a new story that takes Bayonetta on a journey to inferno to save her friend’s soul. The original Bayonetta game is also available as a standalone on Nintendo eShop, or in a bundle with the retail packaged version of Bayonetta 2. Remade for Wii U, Bayonetta comes complete with some Nintendo cosplay options for the powerful heroine.

Hyrule Warriors Add-on Content: This mashup of Dynasty Warriors and The Legend of Zelda series already includes a large amount of content. Nintendo plans to support the game for the long run with more content to help players expand their adventures even farther. That program kicks off when the game launches on 19th September with a free download that adds a fun new mode, weapon and the option to select music.

Ultimate NES Remix: Available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on 7th November, the game features rapid-fire challenges and mash-ups from a selection of 16 of Nintendo’s finest 8-bit games. Regional online leaderboards will let players see how they stack up against others in their area, and Championship Mode offers a gauntlet of challenges from three different games. ·

Fantasy Life Add-on Content: Available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on 26th September, Fantasy Life lets players become the masters of their destinies as every choice they make determines their unique Fantasy Life. Players can easily change their Life Class at any time and experience how each offers a new perspective on the world. Local and online multiplayer options let friends share the adventure, t he exploration and the bounty. An add-on content pack called Origin Island – available from launch – will extend the Fantasy Life adventure even further. Origin Island offers a whole new area home to an ancient culture and powerful enemies, additional story content, new ranks to achieve in Life Classes, access to even more powerful equipment and two new varieties of pets to adopt: birds and dragons.

New Themes for Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu: Following a system update planned in October, Nintendo will be introducing new HOME Menu themes that allow Nintendo 3DS and 2DS owners to personalise their systems by changing the menu background, icons and folders, and music and sound effects. Themes will be available for purchase from a Theme Shop that will be added to the HOME Menu. Stay tuned for more details coming in the future

What blows my mind about this Direct is the fact that no one saw this coming, there were no rumors or reports about s new SKU which makes me wonder how Smash was able to leak the way it did.

This company holds things to the chest so tight that is crazy when something leaks for them.

Nintendo sure knows how to attack my wallet though, now I'll have to buy a 3rd 3DS just for Xenoblade.

Yeah I need that release date for the new 3DS. I hope we get that Xenoblade and not have to petition like last time to get it.

Shulk from xenoblade huh....I guess that leaked list is really legit :wow:

Dr. Mario though????? And the annoying dog from duck hunt?????

New 3DS’ Internet browser has a pre-installed filter, register credit card ($0.29 fee) to turn it off can be visited.

Users can immediately turn it off for 30 yen ($0.29) by registering a valid credit card.
Nintendo says that the filter will be used to “prevent children from looking at harmful websites” on the New 3DS. The fee, which goes hand in hand with credit card registration, is necessary so that children cannot disable the filter without their parents’ consent.

Exclusive software in development for New Nintendo 3DS

New Nintendo 3DS is already getting one exclusive game that won’t be on the original models – Xenoblade Chronicles. However, that’s just the beginning. Nintendo has confirmed that New Nintendo 3DS will be receiving exclusive and non-exclusive software that takes advantage of the system’s CPU and will have improved graphics and controls.
Exclusive titles will be announced in the future. Note that old games will not be getting a graphical boost.

So some games only the NEW 3ds can play and not the old :smh:
I just bought 4 3/2ds last holiday
Now I gotta cash out for 4 again :smh:

Wait.....WHAT?!?!?!

So Nintendo is essentially making a quasi new handheld with the same name????

Nintendo is going hard for that mobile gaming market. Faster downloads, improved 3D, C-Stick button, custom skins, SD slots, Z-buttons, integrated NFC tech..... WOW

They are killing the handheld market right now. I think they should have an exchange program for those who currently have 3DS hardware to make it easier to transition to this new hardware.

Then the MSRP for the Amibo figures is also pretty good at $12.99. Not too cheap, not too expensive... somewhere in the middle.

Dam I have a 3ds hopefully they make it clear on the package or something which games will and won't work on the *old* 3ds
