Sure, they happen (if your situation allows for it) but please stop painting this idealistic picture that somewhat vilifies anyone that DOESN'T have the same opportunities. Someone must be a Black Sheep if they can't get someone to watch their kids?

my aunt did it for years for one of my cousins, a few of my cousins got sent to DR to stay with family while da parents got situated, i got a cousin got had kids young, her mom, my aunt basically raised her kids while she went to school (not ideal)
my pops even told me a few times if i ever knock up a broad in DR he'd happily take care of em while i was in NY, not taking him up on that off but its nice that i have da option

My dad does not get along with any of his siblings but he let them babysit me a few times. it wasn't til I got a lil older that I realized how weird it was that they were always trying to show me porn and x-rated movies. Less than ten years old. Some family members cant be trusted.

I grew up similar to you, people on my block watched me while mom and dad worked. It's wack and God forbid if one of their kids was unstable or just ****ty due to their house environment.
It has nothing to do with being a black sheep, it has everything to do with covering your basis and taking care of your responsibility. Not relying on friends and family.
