Not a great day for Delta Airlines...Legit Racism? Prank? Who knows....

An account from a redditor that was also on the flight:

"Maybe no-one will see this maybe there will be a backlash I don't know but I feel I should say what actually happened on this flight. I was sat two seats away from them internet prankster and his friend. Neither of them was on any phone call I could hear them talking in plain American English. The YouTube guy was trying to get his friend to shout something in Arabic which he did a total of 4 times. He shouted it across the plane and the first two times I thought he was shouting maybe a friend or something. A couple of passengers after the second time said they were making themselves and their young children uncomfortable and could they shut up. They told her to shut up and then he shouted it again and her husband started saying it to them. They were filming people's reactions on their phones, I assume for some comedy YouTube video but they were made to delete it. For the record of anyone who thinks I have some racist or prejudicial motivation to say this.. first of all that's a sad way of thinking.. secondly I am mixed race of Jamaican/British descent so I have experience more than my fair share. Secondly I have been the best man at two Arabic weddings, sad I need this disclaimer but it is what it is.. if anyone wants to ask any questions or berate me for whatever reason I'll stick around while I wait 6 hours for my connecting flight."

I said this before...but most of the people in this thread never heard of Adam Salah before this incident. This guy is most likely irrelevant in our lives. HOWEVER, he's now a national story. Folks' curiosity will be piqued and as a result, they'll go on his YT page, watch his vids, and subsequently with the views/clicks, he'll (Salah) profit. In his world, selling out folks who are actually struggling with discrimination on a daily basis, is profitable. This is a MAJOR problem to me. I got zero respect for him, let alone anyone, who will chose to exploit others for their own personal gain. This was a sham from the get-go, and seriously...screw this guy.

ATTENTION SEEKING YOUTUBE COCKROACHES!!!! DELTA NEED TO SUE AND PERMANENT DELETE THIS IDIOT FROM YOUTUBE.

Ya looking foolish even remotely defending this idiot, focusing on passengers that stood quiet....smh

This is a slap in the face to those that actually get descriminated...this dude is not out trying to bring awareness to an issue that needs no further awareness, this clown is only out to pull views.

i'm not constructing anything, nor am I parsing through anything.

this is all a sham.

we've been had.

saleh purposefully was yelling in arabic to get a rise out of people.

again, this only serves to distract from real instances of racism.

so the passengers reaction was real, so ******* what? are you surprised?

b/c as a bearded brown man I'm not.

there will always be people who remain willfully ignorant and bigoted.

you and I are never going to change some people's minds.

especially when we add religion to the equation.

it IS to be expected. especially with religious intolerance/extremism.

realistically it'll never be 100% defeated, but if you do want to change some minds this isn't how to go about doing it.

No matter how many actual Middle Eastern/Muslim people keep saying this, H2H will keep arguing against it. You won't win with that dude

The head of a major Islamic council saying that pranks/hoaxes are harmful can't convince him, so how can we as regular NTers? "Nah who cares if it's a prank, it's eye opening"

Is pathetic b, the stereotypes exist, we know this, riding on those stereotypes for your own personal gain is disgusting, I'm Colombian with a YouTube chanel, let me hop on a flight from Medellin to JFK with a luggage full of baking soda packed in blocks and film myself as I'm being escorted and my bag is being searched....then cry foul...how does that make sense?

Shut that **** up

Ill say it again this isnt about him its about anti muslim sentiment

I disagree with the notion that its harmful to "real instances" because any/every instance should be outrage

Like how is it that people arent scared of being in schools/movie theaters with white people?

The passengers/airline still displayed white supremacist doctrine but lets all harp on the guy cuz he asked for it

And you think being a middle eastern YouTube prankster purposely dressing up in the stereotypical terrorist starter pack running around with a fake bomb vest, scaring people for views on a his YouTube Chanel is eye opening?

What would you do if you in a store and a middle eastern dude walks in with a bomb vest shouting in a language you don't understand?....

You don't see how that's harmful to the middle eastern people that live day to day being stereotyped as is....now you got one that should understand these stereotypes first hand making a joke of them.

Cuz he did all of that right? And everyone was aware of his history right?

And this couldnt easily be someone else w the same reaction from passangers/airline right?

Im willing to bet the "fans" of his videos are white too

Again the focus yall put is on the unreliable messenger instead of the wrong of the passengers/aitline

 Nice generalization... How can you even say this as if it's a fact?

You don't think that things changed as far as policies in schools post-Sandy hook, or with how people are a bit more vigilant since the CO shooting?

You dont see it as harmful how the status quo is anti muslim sentiment

Thats to be expected so **** it jus accept thats how it is right?

White supremacy was upheld nothing to see here

So policy is public opinion now? That generalization is no different than an arab on a plane being dangerous

I mean some of the other passengers said there were other passengers speaking Arabic as well but they weren't in the aisle pumping their fists and filming it. Other articles were saying that Saleh and his friend seemed to change the situation after the fact. According to them it was actually Slim, the friend, being "targeted" and Saleh was just along for the ride. Then they added that their Arabic isn't the best so they were mocking each other's accent. Why didn't they say that up front? Seems to me there were a few more factors other than "speaking Arabic" that got the pair kicked off the plane.

Now I'm sure the "terrorist" stereotype played a role in him being escorted off the plane, but I don't think it's the main one.

That being said, none of us here were on the plane so we can't definitively say what happened, but hearing Adam Saleh's side vs. Delta and other passengers, it seems that there was a lot more to it than getting kicked off the plane for speaking Arabic. Racial discrimination undoubtedly occurs every day, it just doesn't seem like this is a case of that.

Policy means things changed...tell me why that is?

You have a habit of stating opinion as if it's a fact.

You can be speaking Elven for all I care. If I'm on a plane with you and you're acting obnoxious and get booted then I'm clapping as you get escorted out.

#WhiteSupremecy

Ok policy changed as it should have

But where is the societal fear of white people like there is for arabs?

Where has the public opinion changed in regards to white people?

if some white kid walked to the front of a movie theatre or into a school with a ******* trench coat or tactical vest and gear on im sure some ******* people would be scared. Dont act like this guy was just sitting on a plane minding his own business.

Cuz yelling in arabic is the equivalent of appearing as a threat right?

Like white kids have stopped wearing trenchcoats now right?

Thats what hes failing to understand in this situation. Its becoming evident this guy played into the stereotype as more info is coming to light. The fact remains we get looked at sideways, singled out, searched and interrogated for no reason when we are simply minding our own business but this idiot actually decided to play into the stereotype for personal gain. Ive spoken a language other than english many times on the plane, whether on the phone with family or with family who was on the flight with me. Ive never been kicked off a flight, ive gotten looks from other people but never kicked off. Why? Cuz i wasnt standing up shouting and pumping my fists in the air.
