 He was a candidate for A&M’s DC gig too.

Must know something we don’t about Schiano?

He's from Ohio and is a Mount Union guy. Might just want to go back home, and the pay will probably be better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Greg swallowed his pride and went back to Butgers next season.

Or he couldn’t wait to escape from mike Leach ...

Antics aside Leach hasn't been known to run off assistants like Whittingham, and he's got one of the best trees in the game. Most of it's offense, but guys like Ruffin and Aranda were on his staffs as well.

Lets not pretend like Meyer is great handling assistants either.

C'mon Mullen. Are they having a televised special like for regular signing day this week?

B1G network is, not sure about the other ones.

This is definitely the new NSD too. B1G network is having 6 hours of coverage Wednesday, while only 3 in February.

Looks like Leavitt is staying at Oregon

Would have a great get, but at $1.7M per? I think I'm good, fam. Next man up. Sounds almost like an emotional raise by Oregon, but could be wrong, too. Awesome coordinator, but not that much IMO. Probably would have bolted after a few seasons for a HC job anyway. And rightly so, he's not getting any younger.

Got to pay to play. Oregon certainly wasn’t gonna get outbid on Leavitt, regardless of how much FSU was willing to offer. Even out of mere spite

Which is what it sounded like, spite. It's all good though. It's business, and like you said, got to pay to play. Their money, they can do what they want. Phil Knight probably sitting there laughing right now lol

They're only paying 2.5 for Mario. They can afford to pay 1.7 for Leavitt and still come in under the number for Taggart. Think it's a smart move on their end anyways, he probably bounces next offseason.

so early signing day is 12/20? And the rest sign in Feb? I'm confused. Why the 12/20 signing day?

This is the first year of the early signing period. It's a 3 day window (Dec 20-22) for high school players to officially sign their letters of intent. They can also sign on the normal National Signing Day in February. It's meant to allow players who are solidly committed to end their recruiting process. The vast majority of recruits are know where they're going to sign and are sick of getting constant calls and texts from coaches. The Nick Sabans of the world don't like it because its in the middle of bowl prep and its gives them less time to flip big time recruits.

It's supposed to be a good thing for players and schools but so far it seems like a cluster f***; no one really knows what to expect.

Jackson Carman wants to commit to USC but the Ohio State coaches are pressing his family hard to keep him at home. @witnesskb24

This could be Matthew Thomas all over.

Same thing is happening with Mychale Salahuddin. His mom fainted during a recruit dinner on his visit and didn't attend the rest of the events (he went to the game with his grandmother.) She's pushing him to stay within driving distance of home.

IMO it eventually gets pushed back to the week before fall camp starts. This was a terrible idea.

The date it is right now is one week after regular high school kids find out if they were accepted for early decision and early action. Everyone else has to wait til Jan and February. I don't mind having it now.

I recognize that it hurts the kids in that some coach or assistant is going to sign a full class in December and then bolt after, bu that's a risk the kids are going to have to take. This will lead to less of them getting processed and schools having to be more commited to people when they're recruiting them. Alabama won't be able to pull the **** they did last year in telling a kid the morning of NSD they no longer have room for him and he should grey shirt. At least now kids will have a whole other month to see what their target schools are doing and develop other options.

That kid didn’t HAVE to go to Bama, and this is going to ultimately hurt the late risers from getting better opportunities by getting squeezed in late.

It’s going to be hard for a lot of these top G5 prospects come Wednesday when the school they are committed to is pressuring them to sign and P5 programs are telling them to wait just in case they can get squeezed in, in Feb.
