Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Jake, Lester, Kyle, Lackey, Hammel and the pen, absolutely dominant.

With Contreras catching mostly. :nerd:

That Addison Russell HR was well needed. Insurance. 9 game winning streak. We need to go ahead and put the Cardinals out there misery.

4-6 weeks for Strop. That's fine by me, back by mid Sept, will keep his arm rested til playoffs.

Need Edwards Jr + Rondon to stay healthy tho.....

7-0 thru 2 with Fowler, Zobrist and Heyward all resting.

Please get thru 5 quickly before the rain comes.

9-1 in the 7th.

Contreras, Szczur, Soler with home runs.

Jake gives up 1 run thru 5.2 Maddon gets him out early after 105 pitches. (Low stress)

W. 73-41

11 straight.

+200 run differential on the year.

Arrieta 14-5, now 50-18 as a Cub in 90 starts.

14 game lead.

Terrible luck with Edwards/Rondon the last two games.

But.....MUST be better getting runs in with bases loaded nobody out. Make this game 4-5-6 to 1 and changes everything in the 8th. Huge momentum swing. :smh:

Tremendous spot start by Cahill. 5 scoreless innings, AND gets an RBI on a sac bunt. :pimp:

Now finish this game quietly, and try to get game 2 as well.

Lot of moving parts today.

Lester/Arrieta the next two nights vs the Brewers.

Lackey bumped back a few days after his sore shoulder (I'll pretend I don't notice he's missing a start in Colorado and making his start in San Diego..... )

La Stella is with the Double A team right now, and batting 2nd. Coghlan to the DL, Spencer Patton called up to help in the pen for a couple days, when La Stella is ready, they'll swap Patton back to Triple A, and La Stella will get called up. Then in September, Coghlan and Patton (as well as Almora most likely) will all be called up.

Cahil stays with the team, and will likely back up Montgomery during his start for Lackey in Colorado. (another reason to have Patton for a few days too)

September is almost all Cards, Pirates, Reds and Brewers, we only have two series vs another team, the Giants and Astros early in the month. Everything else is NL Central to close the year.

Washington is SIX games back of us in the loss column for best record in MLB and homefield in the NL. Hopefully Lester/Jake can keep us rolling another couple days and get us closer to September call ups and more rest for the playoff roster guys.

W. 76-43

Another series win.

206 run differential.

Soler 3 run Homer
Ross solo homer

Lester 13-4

Arrieta tomorrow. :pimp:
