So, my 997PAL was delivered today. Box is the standard NB gray, with the stripes on the lid. Exactly the same shape/size as the 999JCW I got from J. Crew (I'm making that comparison just because I happen to have it in front of me at the moment). Certainly not too small...the shoes weren't mashed up against each other in the box, and there was paper separating them anyway. Is your pair a particularly large size? There's plenty of room for my size 9, but maybe a >12 would crowd the box a bit.

You also said your suede was faded...I don't seem to have that issue. Do you mean the color is actually different/lighter in certain areas? Can you brush the nap in another direction to minimize the discrepancy? On a brand new pair, that would definitely annoy the hell out of me.

Incidentally, I'm really happy with this pair. It's an unusual combination of patterns & materials. Not over the top crazy, but distinctive enough to be interesting. Glad I managed to stumble upon a sale.

The colorway draws its inspiration from one of my favorite go to winter dishes, Thai Curry. The thing I LOVE about curry is it’s versatility. Whether you’re a fan of sweet, spicy, sour, or savory. There’s a curry for that. The toe box represents red curry, the hottest of all. Fine hints of green curry are represented with detailed stitching of the New Balance logo on the tongue and heel. The mid panel is wrapped in a beautiful dark brown suede representing the rich and soulful massaman curry. Last but not least the shoe features a bold yellow New Balance logo and heel accent to represent my personal favorite of all the Thai curries.

I went to the NB outlet last month and tried on the 993. They were too big in my TTS, so I had to go a half-size size down. I don't own any 990v4 so I don't know about the comparison.

Damn I had just bought a pair for just a little off retail thinking I was doin it lol... Did they have a lot of sizes when you ordered?

Anyways, you can try dropping by a shoe repair shop and asking them to punch the holes for you. Most would do it for free.
