The United States is not a pure/direct democracy. It is "still" an indirect democracy. A representative democracy (i.e a republic) is still a form of democracy

It can be both a constitutional republic and a indirect democracy.
Many of our major representatives are chosen through a direct democratic process. BTW, at the state level we vote on ballot measures (which direct democracy)
