Official Toronto - Outlet and Store report

In the Yeezy Boost thread, there was a period where people were giving out advice re flipping Yeezy's, taking out loans to fund them, how long to hold them, etc. We dubbed it NT Financial Services LLC. Looks like they just opened up a Canadian sub in Toronto LOL.

What?!?

can't we all just get along lol

gonna stick my neck out here but we're all in this thread cause we like sneakers, it's not that serious

Can someone tell me if I have to pay duties on my Powerphase order from YS? It's being shipped by UPS and I don't want to get boned by the fees

LOL. You serious? I'm not even talking about Canadian retailers vs American or multinational retailers. Ok, let me break it down for you in language we can all understand:

If I buy from the Footlocker at the mall, or Footlocker.ca, who do they employ? Canadians and permanent residents. Those employees all live here right? They're going to hit up the food court for lunch and buy themselves some food from a place employing residents of Canada. That money is, more likely than not, going to stay here.

Now, say you buy from Footlocker.com to save $40-50. Who do they employ? Americans. So, where do you think these Americans are going to spend their money? They sure as heck aren't going to come up here to the Eaton Centre Food Court are they? That money, more likely than not, is not coming back to Canada.

By taking away a sale from the Footlocker up here, you decrease their sales, which then leads to a decrease in staff. The decrease in staff leads to less people eating at the food court at EC, etc.

If you want a larger scale example of why globalization can be harmful, you need look no further than the outsourcing of call-center jobs and IT departments to foreign countries. Canada lost a ton of jobs all because greedy corporations wanted to save money in wages paid and line their own pockets. 50 years from now, the gap between the poor and rich will be huge. We won't have a middle class.

I understand multiple languages. Try me...

You do understand that I did mention in my post that the benefit of having US retailers in Canada are the added jobs right?

Your point about employees purchasing food in Canada is horrid. You're telling me that you truly think the government as well as corporations are thinking of where their employees purchase their food? Hah, alright... Additionally, while Footlocker.ca might have Canadian employees, not all of the larger companies do. So they might be ordering from In n Out. Or they could be buying their dinner from McDonalds Bangladesh.

Again, you're not getting my point. Whether they're buying from Footlocker.ca or Footlocker.com, retail is going to get affected regardless so the in-store jobs will either get undercut by Canadian online retailers (which don't always employ Canadian residents. So unfortunately the Sbarro in the Eaton Centre will probably still suffer...) or by US online retailers.

Looking at your larger scale example, who doesn't the government tax companies for having foreign production and IT jobs? Why does the consumer/local have to pay extra for products? Anytime you see made in Canada, you're in for a much higher price than made in other countries.

Like I said, I know the space well because it's part of my job. It doesn't make much of a difference to the government.

Your whole point about the government not caring about where people spend their money is false. That's what duties and tariffs are for. It levels out the playing field, and is supposed to deter people from spending all of their cash outside of Canada.

It's not that the Government doesn't care. It's that in the current state it doesn't matter whether it's in-store in Canada with a US based retailer or online in Canada with a US based retailer that has a .ca link the money still ends up in the US and largely untaxed due to the benefits those companies receive. It levels out literally nothing because Canadian companies get the same benefits with with higher production costs. What's missing in your thought process is not understanding the fact that the Government instead of increasing tax levels for corporations or if you want to go down a more positive road, helping ensure that production costs are lower in Canada so they can charge less (though in my opinion retailers will charge the same), the cost falls on us.

The ultimate goal for any large organization (considering the Government part of this) is to make as much money as possible while keeping themselves looking like the good guy. Heck, I've worked in marketing as well and have been paid to make products look good even when they're not. The whole "keeping the money in Canada" is just as much a ploy as "make America great again". All it does is try to give people peace of mind. The government lied to us? No, that can't be right... Anyway, do your thing man. It doesn't really affect me one way or another (even though I took time to respond). I'm just not a rainbows and lollipops kind of guy.

My point is, instead of making it more expensive to shop outside of Canada, it should be made cheaper to shop in Canada.

Outlets are 30% off red tag, hash and clothing.

Also, might just be me but it seems like Nike Outlets stopped their coupon surveys.

Thanks!

Why do you say so? Is there no longer a code at the bottom of the receipt or did you not receive your coupon?

Interesting article that Nike looking to cut jobs in order to lower costs to compete with adidas

I swear they just got to stop the wack colourways of foamposites and Jordans. Just retro the air yeezys and make tons of pairs of bred 1s.
Foams are ok as long as they keep stock levels low, they always sell out eventually.  But I agree with your statement on the jordan releases.... They gotta change something there.  Just look at their upcoming fall lineup, most of those pairs are gonna end up on sale and in the outlets guaranteed.  They really have to switch focus to building the brand to a higher level, not taking existing models and creating another trash colouway or removing 50% of the material to make them cheaper to produce and calling them "essential".

They need to make the Bred Jordan 1 the Air Monarchs for younger people or like a white/whote or black/black AF1

Yeah, it happened when somebody scored a pear of Zebras for $700 (this was when they were going for $1400+). People then asked him why the guy sold it for so cheap and he said the seller was really strapped for cash and just needed funds immediately. It then sparked a discussion about how the seller should have taken a payday loan or something and sold the Zebras on StockX/Goat for more. They could then wait for the funds to clear and pay the loan with a ton left over. People then argued that if somebody is in a financial situation where they can't even float a $260 pear of shoes, a payday loan is a horrible idea. Anyways, the discussion continued, and NT Financial Services LLC was born lmao.

Right?! Or just plug the Air Monarchs to some 'influencers' and/or celebs. When the hype booms, increase the prices. They're obviously making money on the shoes selling at $50. Imagine the margins if they sold them at $150!

Both your points are valid on a aggregate/macro level. There are a lot of factors involved (many of which we didn't touch upon).

To end the back and forth, in the current state, it will NEVER be cheaper to purchase items in Canada versus the United States.

For those who did not study economics/commerce in school and are more interested in this topic, google SUPPLY vs DEMAND and Adam Smith's "Invisible Hand" and your eyes will be opened. These are the fundamental building blocks to economics and will answer a lot of your FAQs as to why "we get screwed over in Canada".

I'm honestly glad we're having these types of discussions here compared to what I see/read on the other subs on NT haha. God's definitely LOL'ing up there looking down at us fools "arguing" over this stuff in a sneaker forum of all places given what's going on in today's world.

Happy Friday Y'all! Given the beautiful weather, I decided to flex my Air Max Atmos today at the office. It's pretty neat that there's a small sneaker community at my office. Makes casual Friday more interesting
