Is there supposed to be a production date on tounge?

No, the production tag on the OGs should be halfway down the inside of the shoe -Quite hard to take pics of actually.

These aren't the Playoffs, but hopefully you get the idea...

But how do I know they are OG if there is no production date?

The production date is on the tag -so for example on the pic I posted above you can see the date is 961101

Also, the layout and font is different between the OG and retro tags. This is a tag for the 2004 retro Playoffs:

Remember, those production dates are read YYMMDD...military style...

The date is there, they just idiot proof it now. Very similar to code dates on beer, if you look at any bottle or can of AB beer, you can see when, where, and down to the quarter hour of production, you just have to know how to read it, that way AB can trace them if a problem comes up.
