Why must they do this? This, along with the camera men on the baseline (injury hazard) are two of my sports pet peeves.

I remember watching the Mavs and Laura Greene (female obviously, which is another argument in itself) would always interview guys like 5 minutes after the game and they would either have on a robe or just a towel and no shirt on and I'm always wondering why they can't just wait 5 more minutes and let everybody get dressed. Like, do the media just get to all go in the locker room right away or is there a time period? There should be like a media liason who waits until everyone is decent and then allows the media in.

I am reminded of the Laker's incident somebody was being interviewed and a naked dude is seen in the background, happened the other day in a Celtics interview they were talking to a shirtless Pierce and you can see the shower in the background then the camera zooms further in. This dude Josh Smith went on tv and they showed full body and did an interview with Cheryl Smith in just a towel.

And of course when it comes to women's sports, none of this happens and it's a huge double standard.

It's just stupid to me and bothers me to no end. Keep the reporters and cameras out the locker room until everyone is dressed.

I guess I never really put much thought in it, but i definitely agree with you.

You think players choose to do it, orr do you think the media starts askin questions immediately after a shower/right before a shower?

its prob best for the tv networks doing postgame shows to keep viewers locked in to do it asap

it shouldnt happen tho.

Obviously there's a time period, it's not like these broadcast can air all day. There's more or a less a designated time they're on air. You might think, why can't they wait 10 minutes for these dudes to get dressed but in this case time literally equals money.

It's not like their holding press conferences in the locker room. It's a short post game interview that's going to be on air for a matter of seconds.

Not that big a deal to me. I've been watching sports for 20 years and have been lucky enough to never see anyone naked in the background and I'm not overly sensitive to a man with his shirt off.

a lot of broadcasting in sports is done strictly for the thirsty and sex starved female audience and to keep their attention. ever really listen to some of the commentary on MNF? borderline pornographic.. don't underestimate the beastiality of females

Media wants the players to talk as quickly as possible after the game ends when emotions are high and the best sound bites happen. They for the most part admit this is the reason. The other part which they won't admit is most are nerds and have always wanted to feel a part of the team no matter how minimal and this process of intimate interviews right after the game in that type of setting makes them feel better about themselves.

It's the last place with definitive access to the players all in one place.

If reporters waited for players to shower and exit the locker room, many would sneak out without being interviewed. That, and it would be hard to gather the interviews at one time since the players exit at different times.

The other solution is to have the players remain on the court after the game (practice style), but that would be chaos from a security perspective.

Its because the league's make the teams do it to be accommodating to the press. I think the NFL its 5 minutes after the game. The NBA is 15 minutes. I think the media should have to pick designated players to interview outside the locker room.

A guy I knew from college does post-game locker interviews for the Rockets. I swear, those away players look pissed as hell after a loss getting asked questions while getting dressed. It's pretty funny.
